Colorado Wildlife Commission to ban Varmint hunting

Thanks claimbuster for being one of the driving forces behind all of this.

Haven't been doing much driving lately, mostly flying.

I keep telling myself, W-O-R-K is just another four letter word.

I'll be back focused on the important stuff come Monday.

OK guys, I'm getting the feeling some of you are falling asleep.

A good start is wonderful; however, it's the finish that counts. You know, foreplay, etc....

Book your motel room in Grand Junction and be ready! The more the better.

I'm thinking of bringing my motorhome so we may have more space. It may be in the Walmart parking lot...but who's going swimming!

Hey, NASA is buying the beer!

I'm not much of a beer drinker, but if Tom is buying........

I sent an email to the President of the Colorado Farm Bureau, explaining our efforts and why. I asked for their support and to promote our on-line petition throughout their membership. I will post results as soon as I have any.

Still awake over here. I am just making sure everybody has freash petitions to fill out. Getting ready to pick up some burgers, brats and beans! Back patio is still here, remodel delayed, getting ready to go.

I know there has been some direct phone contact since then--has the NRA-ILA said whether they'll have a man on the ground out there?

As far as I'm concerned this kind of battle is exactly what my NRA dues and donations should be going for.

IMO, I would hope not. I truly believe the strategy that it should be "Coloradoans" that dictate policies in Colorado not outside interest groups is a valid approach. We are fighting an organization that is based in New Mexico. I believe the message must be carried by the taxpayers and hunters, both resident and non-resident, of Colorado. JMO

I think the NRA and SCI have significant presence in Colorado! All they have to do is utilize their resources to mount a counterattack within our borders! I haven't heard a word from the prez of the "Bookcliff" chapter of SCI, and that's after a phone call and an email. I think if "national" would apply a little pressure or even ask for a little help from them they would be there with bells on. As it is, I guess some are still content to sit on their hands for now, then whine later about the outcome.

I must say that the PR guy at SCI in D.C. has at least made me believe that as an organization, they do listen to the "little guy". My experiences in dealing with Brett and Nelson were so positive that I will almost certainly end up joining SCI.

Carry on guys! I hope all goes according to plan with the paper petitions in my absence!!!

I'll check in on the 30th!

I'm still here, just haven't been active on this thread lately. I can't get there the day before, but i'll be leaving eeeaarrrllyy that morning. Have to drive back that day tho for nite shift--hoorahh!! Just keep the coffee on boys. Have tried to disseminate the info whereever i can so maybe it helped some. Going to the RMEF dinner in Colo. Spgs. 4/26 so will let them know there also--we'll see what happens.

I am in 100% agreement! These National Organizations do not need to "speak" to the Commission. They only need to have their presence known and be seen standing in opposition with us. That alone would carry a lot of weight.

It's a [beeep] shame that out of 23,000 registered members on PM, we only have 1,383 signatures on the electronic petition. Talk about "sitting on their hands" and doing nothing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Why can't more people care this much? SS you be very careful driving to GJ. You can rest up in my room before you have to drive back. Thank you for going the "extra mile". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Im still here, just waiting. I have informed everyone I know on the western slope and as of now, I should be meeting most of them up in GJ. It was interesting to me how many people I talk to have no idea this is an issue. All my buddies in Norwood and Naturita hadnt even heard of the ban. They are now spreading the word.

I have gotten a couple of emails from guys saying that signing the petition was "difficult". It's really easy:

Here’s simple instructions for the petition:

1. click on the link http://www.finsandfuroutdoors.net/

2. when it opens, go to the LH column and click on “Sign the Petition”

3. when it opens, go to the center column. there is a BLUE “Sign the Petition”, and below it there is an ORANGE “Sign the Petition”

4. click on the ORANGE “Sign the Petition”

5. fill in your name and the rest of the blanks and hit “send”

That’s all there is to it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Your point makes sense. It was my understanding that the NRA had the lobbyists and others who were Colorado-based. I agree that grass-roots numbers will get their attention.

I just want to see you guys have every possible asset and kick these ARA's back to their next wine and brie party!

Based on what I'm reading here I'll join SCI now asap, too.

A lot of us in other states are really pulling for you guys!

Thanks Javafour. Your support is important.

SS, my understanding from Critterman, is that 1-2 folks from CCA will be there. (I'd like to see more, though)

Cattle growers and Colorado, now here's a big stick:

"In Colorado, beef cattle is the largest sector of the agriculture economy (59.3 percent) with an estimated $2.94 billion in revenues in 2005. Today, there are more than 3.2 million head of cattle and 15,000 beef producers throughout Colorado. Colorado ranks 10th in overall cattle numbers nationwide. Nearly one-third of Colorado's counties are classified as either economically dependent on the cattle industry or having the cattle industry serve an important role in their economies."

It would be nice to see that statement in our presentation to the CWC, just to remind them of the importance of this industry to this state.

Do the bunny huggers bring 2.94 billion into this state with their special interests?

.....or do PD's bring $2.94 billion to the State?

What these folks (bunny huggers) don't want to acknowledge is that this country has changed. They always want to compare today's PD population with that of 200 years ago. Gee, we now have cities, ranches, farms, mines, oil fields, highways, etc, etc. Oh, did I forget to mention the millions of people that now live here. Life isn't the same, the countryside isn't the same. This isn't rocket science. To make a comparison that the PD population is some single digit percentage of that estimated some 200 years ago is, IMO, idiotic.

One thing I haven't done, but will do, is to research PD impact on Colorado alfalfa hay growers. It has to be significant.
