Concealed Carry Weapon

I am looking to upgrade my carry weapon. I have a 380 Keltec. Due to its small size, I do not shoot it well. I have looked at a 380 Bersa Thunder or a Ruger LC9. Thought a subcompact 9mm might be nice, but 380 might be better in small frame. Any suggestions?

Try a M&P 9c. I like the thumb safety model. Get a APEX trigger kit and drop it in.

It is a bigger gun than a Keltec, but small for the firepower it brings.

I just bought a Bersa Thunder 380 for my wife. I like it a lot- probably going to get me one, too! At 25 yds, my first shot with it was 1" left. The next 5 were inside a 2" bullseye, 3 of them touching. I was impressed with the feel and I really like the safety arrangement.

I personally do not. like Ruger pistols except for their mk series 22lr. their revolvers are decent though.

I like the M&P's and the compact is a great, gun and is manageable enough size to both pack around but also shoot well (heck out crossbreed holsters). 380's are all the craze nowadays, and with the better ammo available they are adequate, but i personally like a little bigger. And to getting a trigger kit for an M&P, I do not think it is necessary for a carry gun. the factory trigger is more than adequate to shoot well IMHO

then again you could get the old standby and buy a j-frame

happy shopping

im a revolver guy...but i did own a couple of kahr pistols at one time, a TP-9 and a PM9.

both were excellent shooters, the tp9 was a lemon...it happens, and i had to send it back twice before i sold it, customer service was top notch! the pm9 was flawless, lots of rounds through it, but sold it because the wife had trouble pulling the slide back, pretty tough little gun.

if I were to go 9mm Id look at the cp9, or the springfield emp...I like 1911s...brother had a M&P sub and it was pretty dang nice as well, and a glock..its ok but doesnt fit me worth a dang.

Good luck!!

I have and carry a Springfield XD9SC and like it pretty well. It carries pretty well, and is very accurate, though it is a little fat for some methods of carry. If you want a slimmer gun, select a single stack design like the Kahrs mentioned or the Walther PPS or even a smaller framed 1911 (though I prefer my carry guns without active safeties). I understand that Springfield is coming out with the XDs, which is a single stack version of the XD and XDm line of pistols. First out will be the .45, with 9s and .40 soon to follow. I'll be watching for them.

I carry a sub compact xd 9 almost daily. They shoot very, very, very well for a sub compact.

I currently carry a Taurus 740 slim, and it is good, but I will be purchasing a M&P subcompact in 40 S&W. My father in law has one and it shoots lights out. Plus it fits my larger hands a little better. My other carry gun is a SP101 in .357, love that gun too she just gets a little big in the summer time.

This is very much a personal preference thing. So,
Get out and shoot as many compact autos as possible before you make your final choice.
I have no personal experience with the bursa but a Gal in one of my ccw classes had one and it just wouldn't feed, jammed about every 3-4 rounds.
You might check out the barreta nano 9mm or the Sig ultra compact 380.
I've had good luck with the Rugers and that new Compact 9 looks interesting...
Good luck with your search...

If you want to stay in the realm of the .380, and there is nothing wrong with that for personal defense, you might want to look at the Sig P230 series...While a little more expensive, extremely reliable, and accurate..

I have an older 230 that is my favorite...very similar in size to the Walther PP, but without the web bite to your hand that is normally associated with the Walthers...For me, it produces a very natural point and shoot platform..

I know the common train of thought is for high power, high capacity handguns, but if you look at the history of handguns actually used in real "self defense" situations, there is nothing wrong with a 7-8 round .380 and it's just as effective in the right hands as some of the bigger and more powerful handguns...We're not talking about assault team or competition work here...

My philosophy is carry as big as you can comfortably. So I
like options!

The little Ruger LCP is a honey. It is more accurate than
it should be, and mine has been extremely reliable. I carry
it in my shorts pocket, for those t-shirt, shorts, and sandal
days. The lower left is an example of the XD Subcompact.
This one is chambered in 40 S&W, quite accurate, reliable,
and fairly easy to hide. The top center is a Glock 27, which
is their subcompact in 40 S&W. This is the one I carry most
often in a Comp-Tac Infidel IWB holster. I love this pistol,
and on the range it shows. The big XD-45c center left is my
stove gun. On cold winter nights when I take the Chesapeake
for a walk, and fire up the outside wood stove, it is in my
back pocket. This is one of those pistols that doesn't need
night sights. It just hits where I point. The rest can be
CC guns, with enough clothing, but for the most part they
just bring huge smiles to my face on the range.

Anyway, this picture gives a good comparison of sizes of pocket
380s, subcompact double stack pistols, compact double stack
pistols, and full size pistols in both single and double stack.

im carrying a Keltec pf9 right now. I use the side clip. I carry it in warm weather, u forget its there its so light. When ore clothes are required im a glock guy, 19.

If you want a 9mm, I would go for a Kahr cm9. small, and reliable, nice to shoot and carry. hides well. priced right. I carry mine every day. several hunderd rounds thru it, no failures of any kind.

Glock 26 9mm, with a Glock +2 mag extension, which provides you a place for your little finger, and adds 2 to the capacity. 12 in the mag, one in the pipe, fits into your pants pocket with a DeSantis pocket holster. Drop in a 3.5lb trigger for $25 and you have a reliable, hi cap pocket rocket.
