Confirmed 1.3 mile Taliban kill w/ Barrett 50 Cal

OK

And #2 chock a norther one up for The U.S.A.!!!!

I love this country!! Thank you to all who have served and will serve in the years to come.

That is truly great shooting skill. The .50BMG is not a very flat-shooting cartridge, so there is plenty of "hang time" as the bullet flies to the Tango target.

Really amazing, given it was done in field conditions.

I wish them good shooting in the coming year.

You don't think about it, but they need to adjust for the earth moving under them! That is skill.

Noooooo - that is luck. The 50BMG semi-auto Barrett can maybe hold 2 to 2.5 MOA on a good day - they are not very accurate rifles.

Two MOA at 1.3 miles is well over the width of a Volkswagon... and that's without wind.

If you keep shooting at things far away, eventually you will hit something.

The earth has nothing to do with it.

Come on Cat think. You ever look at plain flight patterns?
Their curved. If your in the right place yes it will change.

That is one heck of a shot. Heck, I can't even see that far and I have 20/13 vision. I wonder who, back here in the States, and at which base has the blue prints for that rifle and does all of his custom loading for that rifle. I'll guarantee you that those are not factory rounds he is shooting. There is an example of team work. Not only for the sniper and his spotter but for the personnel here at home loading his custom ammo and making sure it right before it ever leaves the loading bench. I wish I could shoot 1/4th that distance that accurately. God bless our troops.

"Plain" flight patterns??? Plains don't fly.

Or do you mean "Plane", as in airplane?

If so, airplanes have less than nothing to with bullets. They have wings and and rudders and elevators... and people in the front that drive tem by turning the wheels and pushing the peddles.

How they drive them depends on a lot of stuff... it's like saying that rolling bowling balls change direction because cars on the L.A. Freeway do... Huh /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Duh??

Nice try at fake science - no cigar!

I own a 50BMG rifle - a far much better rifle than the Barrett, and I have shot at 1,900 meters (1.19 miles) with it on 2 and 3 foot boulders, and I can tell you that the earth didn't move...

... come to think of it, that's what my ex said about our honeymoon too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

+1 for CatShooter. Mostly luck. Skill is not enough at that range, you need a lot of luck too. Otherwise it would be done every day or two.

Is the earth rotation has nothing to do with it then why does every show dealing with military and snipers say they have to calculate in the earth rotation?

Because it sounds so "impressive" - it obviously impressed you... Gee, they said it on TV.

If you ever had physics, you would know it has nada to do with a rifle shot.

Under the worst rotational conditions (the north or south poles), the error is ~1.5 inches at long range, and for the rest of the world, it is lass than half of that.

If the sniper or target were not on the same earth, then maybe some calculation may be in order? Of course the bullet is not on earth after it is fired - but sure gets back to earth pretty quick... I'm thinking a tin foil hat would be in order to solve this one. All kidding aside, that is one [beeep] of a shot!

I hope that he wasnt using full metal jacketed bullets!
I have learned from my reading Predator Masters that FMJs are inaccurate, illegal, dangerous, and immoral.

If you read more of the posts it talks about the gun it was a custom built gun built by LaRue Tactical.

I read more, and I didn't see where it was built by LaRue - there is some comment about "something" being built on a "LaRue Lower", but AR's have lowers, Barretts do NOT have lowers.

LaRue did not build the gun.

When I first read the thread, I thought is was done with the Barrett Bolt rifle - but when I went back, I saw that the gun used was the Barrett Semi-auto 82A

http://www.barrettrifles.com/rifle_82.aspx

This is a recoil operated rifle like the Browning M5 shot gun - the whole rifle is stamped metal, and the bolt locks in to the recess of the barrel - the whole barrel slides back and forth when the gun fires - they are loosie goosie and good for ~2 moa at best.
