Cougar pics...

Man that is an awesome looking cat! So when are you inviting us all up for a kitty dinner? Just kidn on the invite.
Congrats, congrats, congrats! You have made a bunch of us green with envy!

Curt,
Congratulations!!!!!!
I bet the shakes kicked in after the shot real hard! She is a looker.
Did you go buy another tag. Last weekend and you can get 1 more!

Great job. Thanks for sharing the story and the pictures.

Thanks much guys.

cougerbait, it was real weird. Always thought I'd get real jacked up if I got a longtail. Everything about this stand was unusually calm. Must be getting old. Although I was quite "alert" while looking for it after the shot.

Didn't bother getting another tag. Figured I'd used my luck up for this season. I'll just wrap up the season on a positive note. Still kind walking on air.

Thanks again for all the kind words fellas. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Good hunting, Curt

WAY TO GO!!!!!!! Congrats Curt!!! A job well done and than you for the story and picts..

You are AWESOME!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've got to say it again, WAY TO GO!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Curt,

Thats too cool!!!! It's one thing to get one while deer hunting as a few lucky guy's do, but to go out and say "I'm going to try to call a cat in today" and do it is a whole other ball game.

I hope I have some of your karma tomorrow.I'm going out Mon and Tue by Baker Lake and maybe by Grandy or Blue Lake if the snow isn't too bad.

Thanks for the pictures and for the added hope. Great job.

Awesome Curt,

Great story and pictures it gives me goosebumps thinking about going looking for it after the shot. I bet the old ticker was going on that one.

Congratulations

Curt, It that Ranier in the background? I live and SE Washington. Anyway, great job on the cat. I would hate see what a big male looks like.
I plan on going over to Montana in the next few years and snowmobile in with a friend thats a guide over there and give it a try.

P.S. Anybody know what Couger tastes like? Heck, does anybody eat coyote?

I have heard that Cougar meat is real sweet. I know allot of people that have had it. Can't wait to get my own one day. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks for the kind words Loco, Butcher, Bandit, and bonesarelli. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Butcher, hope you had a good hunt this week. Man, wish we had snow here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

bonesarelli, that is Adams back there. Folks around here that have ate cougar meat claim it is one of the best tasting wild game meats there is. Some say it's like pork others say somewhere between pork and chicken. Haven't tried it myself. I will let you know though.

Got the meat back from the butcher the other day. He said there was hardly any waste. Asked what kind of rifle and bullet was used. He was surprised at how little damage it did. Just a .22 hole going in one side. He did have to pick a few porcupine quills out though. Yum! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

cougerbait, only five months and it starts again. Yours is out there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Take care and good hunting.

I have tried cougar meat. The one i tried I got from my taxidermist. It was aged at aprox 13+ yrs old and 200+lbs. He put the loins in the smoker. The taste was ok, but it was really dry and though as shoe leather. He said the younger ones are much better.

Hey Curt, what else can I say that everyone else hasnt already! Too bad I wasnt sitting next to you with the camera!(or maybe a rifle) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Nice Job. Jeff

Curt. Great job! Man, you shoulda went straight and bought a Lottery ticket somewhere! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif kyray

Great job Curt /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif that's quite an acomplishment in predator hunting. Looks like the 22-250 did a fantastic job too, I love that round.

Thanks much TX SNIPER, Jason, kyray, and FALFire.

Got a chance to try out some steaks last Sunday. Brought a couple small ones for lunch at work today too. I just put a little oil in a pan and cooked them in a skillet. Looked almost just like pork chops. Turns a white color when cooked like pork does. The flavor was very good. No gamey smell or flavor. Unlike bear, the little bit of fat on the meat was flavorful as well. Little seasoning salt and pepper and it's ready to eat. I had a hard time deciding whether it tasted closer to pork of beef. Somewhere in between I guess. Part of the steak was pretty tender and part was a little chewy but all very good. I'm going to try some of the round steak cuts in a slow cooker with BBQ sauce next.

The hide was sent to the tannery and the skull off to the meat eating beetle place this week. Can't wait to get them back.

Here are a couple more pics.

This is a better pic of the stand. The caller is on the log at the edge of the burn pile in the lower center of the picture.

This is a pic of where she came from. It would have been to the direct left of the above picture. I'm guessing she may have been lounging in the sun near the top of the ridge somewhere. Just guessing though. When I caught sight of her it looked like she was coming from higher ground.

Here is a pic my wife thought would be funny to get. I don't think "Tiger" thought it was as funny as she did. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ha ha!

Using a C-3 reed from burnham bros. and mini 14

Thanks Steve. Congrats on your cat too.

Not sure what the weight was. Guessing from the hanging weight at the meat cutter we were thinking around 110 too. Definitely not the jughead male I wanted but any cats a good cat I suppose. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good hunting, Curt
