Coyote Carrier

What do you guys use to haul your Coyotes out with? I'm talking about carrying them. Thought of making a sling with loops at both ends. I don't realy like dragging them and they can get darn heavy carying by the legs. Got one that weighed 47lbs and had to cary it about 1/2 a mile. Threw it over my shoulders and ended up drenching me and the gun with blood. Any ideas? I like making things when I can.

There is a guy that makes game carriers out of aircraft cable and aluminum that are awesome, he makes them for deer, turkey, coyotes, and small game. I can't think of his web-site at the moment, but if you want me to I can post it. They are really nice and very reasonable priced.

Just go to the local store and get a choke collar for a dog. Large one is just right for the job of packing a coyote like a suitcase. It's even long enough for carrying over the shoulder if you wish. Jimmie

Crapshoot knows what he's talking about!Reese all the way.Try All Predator Calls, they carry them.Rope. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Is this what you are looking for? They work nice.

Good hunting,

I use nylon cord. Slip knot around their throat. Large Bowline loop across my chest, or around my waist. I also put a small hand loop inline. No lifting/carrying, just dragging.

It's not as labor intensive, IMO /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

The Reese products are very nice. The coyote carrier is just what you need. I Should have got one years ago. Sure takes the work out of hauling them to the truck.

Keep those coyote off your self they is full of fleas and they are looking for a new host, take a 6 inch dowel maybe 3/4 in thick(broom handle) drill a hole in it and tie some cord thru it and put a loop on the other end and loop it around the coyote hind or front legs and pull it along, works great. make the cord long enough so that when you are walking along the coyote is dragging along right close to your side, this wraps up and fits in your pocket so you don't even know you have it along, on the other hand when you don't have it you don't know that either. so make a couple of them and keep them handy.

I gotta agree that I don't want a coyote rubbing up against me while I transport him out. I got a flea off a fox that I dragged out!
I've been think of doing something like howler suggested, but make it a little artsy by using a piece of antler for the handle.

I don't want them rubbing blood, guts and parasites all over me either. I took a 20"x5/8" piece of nylon webbing. looped and stitched it. I then tied on a 5' piece of parachute cord. I can drag up to two coyotes at once, or if I wanted to carry a critter, I could tie up short and loop my hand through the nylon web.

On the drags you guys are talking about it works far better to put the loop behind the canine teeth on top and over the top of the nose. Then if your cord is short enough it lifts the head and front feet off of the ground and they drag easier.

Hooking to the top jaw is how I drag them too. The tether that I use is a real high tech device called bale twine.Losing one isn't a big deal. If a coyote is coming back to the truck in this part of the world it usually means snow. Dragging on snow doesn't seem to hurt the fur.
Occasionally I will use a ice fishing sleigh, esp if I'm hauling extra stuff out to a stand. Dragging is effortless, plus it can be flipped upside down for a dry place to sit in the snow.

I use a wide camera strap that's comfortable (as possible) over the shoulder with ribbon webbing loops on the end. I don't mind the fleas/blood much, but i do the best i can to pick 'em off my clothing-- the fleas, that is. Used to hunt with an old buddy of mine who's wife finally instructed him to put a plastic bag over the passenger seat when i got in. I guess that was supposed to be a wakeup call to wash my coveralls. So i did (once) after that.

I use the choke chains and a piece of dowel, too. Then I use the same choke chains to hang them by the hocks to skin them. 3 chains and 3 carabiners are less than $5 at the .99 cents store.
