Coyote hunting in Idaho?

i was probably a little rough on Bofire..

i agree Bofire i think you were only trying to be helpful..

on the other hand i feel the way i feel & will make no apology's for that..my hunting partner Doyle & i actually disagree a little on this one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif that's cool..it's really a no win situation..it's to complicated to rationalize /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif i do know & Doyle will testify we have blown sidewall's on tire's exploring & scouting the high desert..not to mention getting stuck..or bring your A-game to try not too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif anyone with any experiance in the country south of the snake will also testify how difficult these two track road's are to travel after a rain or slushy snow..the dirt turn's to a clay mud..it's unreal how slick it become's..we couldn't alway's pick perfect day's to scout the country..we did it anyway..we have tooled about the I.O.N. probably close to twenty year's now..so ya i'm a little touchy..i also know it's public not mine..

again my comment's are not directed to the original poster..

Yup, I so agree with Mason Jarr for all the same reasons. I've lived here all my life and hunted here since I was old enough, these are my spots. And yes I agree with the others I don't own it and they have as much right to it as I do. I know others out there hunt "my areas" so they have to either get up earlier than me or be willing to walk farther than me. The majority won't, they are smarter than that.

Head east towards Mountain Home, Turn south on hwy. 51 hunt althe way south to the Border or to that Indian Reservation.
There are roads that turn off all over.
You can also take Hwy 78 back towards Boise, there are lots of turn offs and area.

Also between Mountain Home and Boise there are turn offs towards the North and North East.

Ford Explorer... 20 miles per gal on the highway (nice flat highways)...... gasoline $4 a gal.....ohh crap thats $600 bucks there and back... Relax Idahodians.... I dont think too many hunters are gonna be racing to hunt this winter when gas hits $6 a gallon...

I understand what alot of these fellas are saying. it's not so much the out of towners that come in and you take them out and show them a good time. They usually live a good distance away. It is the locals whom you take out of the goodness of your heart and then they in turn take their friend and they their frienad and so on and so on. It's not that they will kill every coyote in the area so much as it is the added pressure and now edjucated coyotes that are the problem. Searchlight Nevada is one of those places. Use ot be a great place for coyotes, jacks, quail, bobcat, etc. The coyotes are still there just tougher to call. The jacks are slim pickins, and i see more and more spot lights swinging each time im down that way at night. I am ver selective of whom I take out and where I take them. Those who come in from out of state get the best I got. The locals I have to feel out first to see if they can be trusted to keep their mouths shut and show some respect by not hammering the crap out of the areas that i have taken them to. Yes it is public land and you are more than welcome to do your homework and find the same areas on your own. But I dont appreciate someone I have taken out calling going back to the same areas weekend upon weekend with his other buddies and they theirs and making the area that much harder to call and be sucessful.

Hey, Dave Allen, you get to Washington, East or west when I am there and I'll show you some great spots. If I get to Idaho again soon I'll show you my spots there. some in the Boise area, some around Council. If you want to drive I have some kick butt areas in Montana, north of Great Falls, mostly private property that I can take you to.
As you said, I feel what I feel. Right now in my life I am more focused on helping others hunt than scoring my self.

I did what I did, said what I said and you all can be as rough as you like, I am a big boy and can take it. I found my spots and find more all the time.

The most fun I have had in the last few years is taking out a newbie and helping him get his first coyote.

Honestly I don't think I have hunted the same place twice. I thought half the fun of coyote hunting was learning new country. We always try a new road or draw. Shoot since I started hunting yotes I probably forgot the first roads I took. The Owyhees are way to big to drive them all.
