Coyote Hunting Western Colorado

I recently moved to the Grand Junction area so GMU 30 and 31 and was wondering if anyone knows of good areas to hunt coyotes. I do most my shooting at the blm land by the grand junction airport and see tons of prairie dogs, so I set up near prairie dog town and started my normal calling routines that I would use in similar situations near Fort Collins(where I've had a lot of success before.) and after 4 hours I didn't see a thing and I no longer had shooting light so I packed up and went home. Any ideas where I may want to go to next?

I got a friend that lives over there and going by what he says, the coyote population is way down right now, over there. So I'd say that your best bet is starting doing some scouting. Drive the back roads and look for tracks and scat and once you find a decent amount of both, then get ta callin'.
My friend hasn't called coyote over there for the last couple of years because of the low numbers. Instead, he has made an annual trip over here to go with me instead. In other words, it's been that bad over there.

i will second that. while i dont hunt much around grand junction, when i have it seemed that the coyotes were call shy and had played the game many times before.

all the western slope has been hit hard by the current craze of new predator hunters. any place that looks good, that is near a road will likely be not very good. i find small over looked areas, and cover a lot of ground. a normal stand will occur at a mile or more from the road. some winter mornings i will see 5 or 6 other vehicles with guys calling from the road or very close to it.
even into eastern utah it seems there has been a lot of pressure.

More callers per square mile in Mesa/Moffat county than anywhere on the planet. With Cabelas/Sportsmans Warehouse they buy calls and call every sage bush in the country.

Not exactly the best population this year. Gov't killers did there job as did the private predator guys. Market is down so most went out and killed coyotes to satisfy the urge.
