Hey Guys,
Last Saturday I tried skinning a coyote for the first time. I wouldn't say I did a real great job, but I did okay. The dog had sat for a few hours before I got to it. I had a hard time with the tail, and I finally just cut the bone about half way down (I don't have a tail stripper). I also should have started the rear legs before I hung him from the fence post. Once I got going I did okay. I found a few spots where things get thin and it is easy to cut through the hide (I found this the hard way). When I got to the ears, I had heard people talk about turning them inside out, but I couldn't figure out how so I cut them off with the cartilage inside. This whole deal took me way too long at about an hour. I was going slow and trying to learn as much as I could though. I definitely need a dedicated skinning knife. Looking at the Havalon Piranta, but it will have to wait till after xmas. Anyways, the hide was a good one, but I didn't think my skinning job was worth saving so I made a coyote scarecrow in the barnyard. Here is a couple of pictures I took the following Wednesday while hunting with Farva250. The hide was pretty ripe, but he couldn't keep his hands off it UUGGGHH!!
