Coyotes being called dogs.

Does this drive anyone else crazy? Dogs are domesticated pets. Coyotes are not domesticated or pets(lawfully anyway). Not trying to start a fight, just wondering if I'm alone in my way of thinking.

Things are good here, thanks. We call them strays or dogs. I've never came across any wild dogs around here. But I've only been around 35+ years.

I never have called them dogs but a lot of people do, and many of them are accomplished coyote hunters. I have always thought it kind of gives anti hunters some ammo when they are talking to neutral people who don't know any better.

You are not alone. I feel the same way. Why do wolves get the designation of Wolves, and Coyotes are Dogs? Oh well, we could ask DogginCoyotes but he is no longer here. Dadnabbit!

When that coyote dog eats the neighbor ladies poodle I'll bet she calls it worse things. I see your point about the neutral people, but I'm through trying to appease the antis. They are all dogs I guess. Just depends if one sleeps in the house with you.

A DOG coyote is a male
A GYP coyote is a female
S.O.B. is a coyote missed
Desert wolf is a Coyote
The one that i dont like is YOTE,Or YOTIE Just dont sound right to me.

I call them all kinds of things except when i was at the coyote gods web site then you had to call them COYOTES LOL.( You may not know what im talking about BUT some here do )

I agree I was going to post the same thing. Coyotes are wild animals not little wild doggies that will play fetch with a tennis ball which some non-hunters seem to think...

Pretty much it. Don't care who calls them what. But I call them coyotes, or if I do say dog, I mean a male coyote specifically.

I call them targets.

Coyotes are in the dog family.

Bobcats are in the cat family.

Crows are in the bird family.

Bass are in the fish family.

So... it's really just a family thing.

Ps... Obama is in the ...????? ... family

I thought a dog was one of those saggy pants kids with those XXL T shirts?
Or maybe that was dawg..
I can see where you're coming from though.
I usually call them coyotes, but may call them a dog if they've been referenced as that previously here.
Guess it would be the same as people calling mountain lions and bob cats a kitty.
Never bothered me really. Never thought about it before.

A GYP is a female that has not yet been bred, afterwards it is termed a "[beeep]"

Nope not a bit.

I call them all kinds of things. Why not call them dog? That is what they are. In the English language we call all breeds of K9's dogs why not wild furry ones. I mean does it matter at all? I'm not trying to be a di#* just wondering why it would bother anyone. I have buddies that call soda, pop. Doesn't offend me

I skip the "S" and the "O" and go straight to the "B"

Anyways, wait till I drop a bunch of female foxes and refer to them as Vixens. The anti's really love that one........

When people use the term "dog" I don't mind so much.
The thing that bugs me is when people say it like "COYOTEE" (kahy-oh-tee)...bugs the he11 out of me. Maybe its just regional or cultural differences, but I say it like Coyote (kahy-oht)

I could care less. What matters to me is what you are talking about.. As long as i understand what you are talking about, coyote, Dog, Yote, or whatever it really doesn't matter.

There are some here that it seems to really bother. I wish i had those kinds of problems, or time.

If, someone is going to expect or profess an issue with slang or just non-typical references to a Coyote, they should spend as much time on the rest of their thoughts they share as well. I am sure there is a Proper English writing forum for them to join somewhere.

I agree with the pronunciation thing. Don't really know why, but it has always been a big pet peeve of mine.

As far as using the term "dog"...I have always called them coyotes...and I'm getting too old to care whether someone else calls them "dog" or not.
