I would like to find an area to hunt Coyotes in Carlsbad NM. Or is anyone looking for a hunting partner? Let me know. Im in the area for several months, I reload and sometimes get lucky with my mouth calls. I shoot a 22-250 and have a 223 on standby. Also, brought my 280Ai just in case. My family is back home and im bored. Im available most evenings and weekends. Please, serious replies only.
Thanks for looking.

If you don't get any replies, it would be worth your time to stop off at the local BLM office and get a couple maps of the area. They will show you land ownership - as I recall there's plenty of public land around Carlsbad that you can access.

Been hearing good reports southwest of town towards the mountains. haven't had the chance to try it yet. been hunting the past month east towards hobbs with not much success. just two dogs called in. post your results wherever you go. just got me a rem r-15 that i've been dying to blast a coyote with.

hey warrior

good news
there is alot of blm around you
bad news
the yotes are very well educated
good news
you can call a few
(especially as they pair up over the next couple of months)
put your rabbit call away and get out the howler and use some unusual distress sounds
bad news
some folks i know have hunted the heck out of the area
and they have taken lots of the coyotes
they are also guiding hunts in the area
good news
local ranchers love predator hunters
bad news
there is a well seasoned hunter local to nm and south into texas that leases the ranches for his guided hunts and you won't get on them
his area runs from carlsbad and roswell and white's city
(where i have a residence)
down 285 to pecos and monohans and midland odessa
other than that
some us forest lands around and some private lands over the mountains north of dell city
but again it is way way over hunted

good luck pard

there are some GREAT hand calls here in this forum
as well as some custom makers in that area
ask around... folks will point you to one guy about 30 minutes from there
just remember...the dogs are well educated
stay away from rabbit sounds
and the fox pro helps alot especially when combined with your hand calls
better get out soon tho
the wind starts in about 2 weeks

I was raised in Carlsbad. Moved to Colorado in 97. I use to have alot of luck in the Black Canyon hills all the way up too around Sitting Bull Falls. As well as in the Queens area (Lincoln National Forest).

Last time I was there, in 2004, we went out by Avalon Lake. North of town and called in a few dogs...

Dont know how it is now.... Good luck!

Well after about 15 mins I called two into a valley were I was set up. Both of them came to within 200 or so yards and paused. I did my version of lucious lips and they slowly continued towards me. One of them went down into a dry runoff creek and never came back out. He probably headed to my left which was the down wind side. The other came around the right and I noticed him limping a bit. He was reluctant to come in and then trotted across my field of view. I blew him a few kisses and he stopped almost broadside in front of me at about 150 or so yards. I took the shot. The 52 grain Hornady stoked with H380 dropped him in his own shadow. I could have used some help.

Cool, 10-4. I'll be busy the weekend of the 14th but free most eves and weekends. I have not gotten any access to private land yet otherwise i'd be out with my night vision and red lens.
