Coyotes nearly killed my dog!

Sorry I got in here late, but read the entire thread and glad to hear that Bullet is recovering. He’s made it this far, and the chances are in his favor now. I’ve owned dogs all my life, including a couple of Beagles years ago. I know what great little dogs they can be. Ronald is right, you can’t blame a predator for being a predator; but by the same token, if I saw a cougar making a sneak on my horse I’d kill it in a heartbeat and worry about permits later. Hope you get the right coyote.

I will kill this coyote. And, I will have his hide tanned and make a throw rug for Bullet out of it. That's a promise.

Now you're talkin'. And you'll just be doing what pi$$ed off dog owners who also happen to be predator hunters do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Glad to hear Bullet is doing well. My heart was racing as I read your story. I had a pit bull attack my black tongue chow in my own yard years ago. Nothing can describe that feeling of helplessness when you see your friend being torn apart. Get to work on that rug, sounds like your buddy will be home soon.

I too am looking forward to seeing a pic of him lying on a yote rug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great to hear the good news...keep us posted.

Prayer sent for Bullet!

VERY glad to see he's seems to be rounding the corner!

I will be praying for an early retirement of the responsible 'otes!!

Three 44s

Any of them would be that.:)

GC, I'm glad you rescued your dog. I'd have done the same (I was a 440 hating sprinter myself!).

I'm now praying you get that tanned hide you mentioned.

The wife and i wish bullet and ur family the best of luck, we will be thinking of the cute little guy.
Youve got work to do. Get ur steel, get ur camo, get ur calls, hit the field, lock and load, one shot one kill, no mercy with those SOBS, Good Luck!

As a grown man... I too find it hard to admit it sometimes, but a mans/family's dog is nothing to mess around with.

Ever since I had to put my own dog down when I was 13... the topic never loses its luster. He got hit by one of the many cars that come screaming by our farm place just before I came home from school. He was mangled... and absolutely nothing could be done... and I knew it. So I grabbed my dads .44mag and took him out to the trees... and one of us became a man. Still probably one of the hardest things I've had to do.

I'll be praying for bullet.

If I were you... I'd rally every bit of support you can from your local hunters and maybe some not-so-local on the boards here... and get a coyote calling contest together in your area. Usually a contest will always get the numbers down. Get a stuffed animal that looks like bullet to take with you. Sweet revenge! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well here is the latest. I cannot believe it, but the Vet let me bring Bullet home today. He said the little fellow was making himself sick. Seems he was so homesick that after we'd visit, then leave, Bullet would pace and cry for hours. He wasn't resting at all.

So, we brought him home and I can't begin to believe how happy and well, actually well, he is acting. He looks like hell, as if he was slung out of an open truck bed going 90 mph down a rough gravel road. More than a little rough, the wife couldn't eat dinner and look at him. He's dripping blood occasionally. And he just rubbed against the new couch and left a smear of blood.

BUT, he's HUNGRY, really hungry. He's drinking water, of course I put crushed ice in his water so its nice and cool for him. Plus he wanted to go potty and managed that without too much trouble. He's wobbling around, he managed the steps up and down on the back deck. He sniffed out the back yard and what little hair is left on the ruff of his neck went up and his tail went wild as if he were on track. Some of the smaller bites are beginning to scab a little and close. One of the first things he did upon arriving home was walk around and check everything out inside. I guess to make sure home is still like it was before the attack. Maybe to make sure there were no coyotes hiding in the house! He's on meds for pain, inflamation, and has an antibiotic also. We have appointments to take him back to the Vet's Office the next two Fridays. He's acting like my old dog and other than the obvious discomfort and wounds his actions aren't different than before. I wish we could bathe him, man does he smell! That's ok, we'll deal with that. It's so good to have him home and know he'll heal whole again. I'm going to try to get some pic's of his wounds and I'll post them for you.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for all the considerable understanding, the kind and gentle thoughts, and most importantly - the prayers. God bless you all...

Thats awesome to hear, GC I am glad that Bullet is well on down the healing path, and I hope you get that coyote, and kill it, and all his buddies and cusins,

Simon

Thanks for the progress report. I know that everyone that has prayed for you guys will be smiling when they read your last post. We will still keep you guys in our thoughts as he won't be healed until he can run next to you again, and neither will you GC. I too would also like to see that coyote rug. Keep up the good work Bullet.

Glad to hear bullet is healing well. Your story still rips at my heart. I would come unglued it my dog were to get hurt like that. We are getting more and more cougars around here and that scares the heck out of me. The only time I let my dog out of the fence is if I am with him. We have piles of yotes around to and I do not let my boy get to far from me. I too would make it a goal to seek my vengence on that yote. Good luck to you and best wishes to your friend. Oh yeah, I was also a 440 sprinter. Even though that was 24 years ago, I bet under your situation, I could beat my ole time even with my recked back.
