Seems like your little Bullet has the same heart & fire in his belly as his Daddy does. Glad to know that he's recovering nicely and back at home where he belongs.

Time for Daddy to go take care of business...

That is great news Gary! I'm glad Bullet is back home - he should mend quicker now that he's not stressing out about you leaving him at the Vets. Now go out there and get Bullets coyote rug!!

wow did i show up late to this thread. I'm still putting bullit in my prayers.
i too know how heart wrenching this can be i had a dog attacked by a greyhound. it took a bite out from the top of her back to her elbow joint down to the bone. the wound was about a 4" hole. the vet had to leave it open so it would heal from the inside out. i also know the smell of that healing wound. it did grow shut and the hair came back but it was white for about 2 years then it slowly changed back to its normal coler.
the funny thing is when we got to the vet that teacup poodle with half her side missing tried to start a fight with the vets black lab. that dog never learned a thing.
her three pounds would try any dog and never back down i think she had a death wish. luckally she was so small no other dogs ever took her serious.
i hope bullit does well and hope you get that coyote and any others that live close.
i'll take some out in bullits name saterday.
i think i should get a new dog but then i think of ceazer my border collie he was the best dog but when he died it was as bad as losing one of my children. i have never gotten another just for that reason. he had cesures and epolepsy, one night he had them repetedly untell he could only roll his eyes. i picked him up and we went for the last walk it was 2:00am i stayed out there and cried tell the sun was well over head. i just don't ever want to go threw that again.

GC:

Glad to hear Bullet is back at home. Even for pets, home is where the heart is. And, 'There's no place like home'. Our pets know that, just like humans, will respond and heal better in their own surroundings. Bullet will remain in our prayers. What good news.

A brief update about Bullet. He's doing pretty darn well. He has a healthy appitite, drinks lots of water, and is regular at the tiolet. Some of the bites are closing over and scabbing well. He is stronger and stronger and is resting well. Back to snoring in fact! The first night we brought him home he was very restless and did not sleep well. The wife took a personal day and stayed with him the next day. He was somewhat restless but settled down along in the afternoon and now is fine. Today he was home alone as he usually is. I came home and checked on him today at noon and he was just about like always in his actions. The large wounds are still weeping fluid. He has some swelling and is just a tad stiff in a few of his movements. I can tell the healing wounds are itching him and he wants to rub and scratch them. As of right now, while he still looks like he was ran over by a tractor drawn bush hog - his actions are very strong and are giving me confidence. He received a present today from one of our generous posters on the forum. Lytefoot45 sent Bullet a new frame bed and a neat card that arrived today. Bullet got his first UPS package! Thank you sir, a kind deed. And thanks to all who were concerned and gave thoughts and prayers. He's made it and I wouldn't have bet on that the night I typed the original report of the incident. It's interesting, when he goes out he looks across that creek toward the place of the attack and actually acts as if he wants to go that direction. Surely he's not thinking of getting some payback... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I bet that's exactly what he's thinking. Dogs are like the little guy you knew in school that just didn't know when to quit. Always thinking, hoping that next time will be different. If I were you I'd take the little guy with me every time I went after that coyote. Restrained of course cuz of his "tude". But as soon as the score is settled, I'd turn him loose and hope to he11 he marked his territory right in that yote's face. Yep, you're right. I'm a vindictive SOB.

GC, the serum from the wounds is a good thing, as long as it is fairly clear. Watch for any "yellow" color that would signal infection. The swelling is normal, as you know, but it can sometimes signal a serum buildup under the skin that could cause him problems. If the swelling doesn't continue to reduce, or should increase, get him some attention. Glad to hear that he made it. He's a lucky guy and has some great parents. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hope you don't mind this "unsolicited" medical advice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I appreciate the advise. We have appointments at the Vet Office for the next two Fridays, so he'll be looked over at least a couple more times by a pro.

Good to hear the Vet will be watching him closely. As Hidalgo indicated as long as the fluid is clear, he's fine. If the color changes, then there's a problem. But I think he's over the major part of his ordeal and in a couple months he'll be as good as new. The healing processes will take time, but the anger in his mind will probably never end. I'm sure he wants pay-back, so when he's healed take him 'yote' hunting, but keep him on a leash until the 'yote' is down.

Good luck to you and Bullet.

That Bullett is one tough litle fellow!/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif He must be a FMJ. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The fluids Bullet is weeping from the wound is clear. There is quite a bit of stuff coming off the large wounds. We're cleaning those out about three times per day. We are also changing his bedding sheets daily. Bullet seems to have an infection in his left eye. The left eye is swollen some and had a whitish looking discharge along the lid this morning along with some clear tearing. The white stuff hasn't been back all day, though the eye is still tearing/weeping some. That has me some concerned. He has a Vet appointment tomorrow if we can get him down to the clinic. We're having a major winter ice/snow storm and about everything is shutdown right now. If the Vet is in tomorrow, I will get Bullet in there for his exam. Otherwise I guess we'll have to reschedule for early next week. I'd like to have him looked at ASAP, maybe his med's need changed to take in the eye situation.

GC:

I'd have to say as long as Bullet is 'tearing' it will keep what ever is there coming out. A good sign, but get him in to the vet when you can to be safe. We're having a storm up here right now and they say it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Hope it isn't a repeat of what we got in October. Folks are still cleaning up from that one!

Good luck with Bullet.

GC, I just read the story! I feel for you, your story touched me! sounds like Bullet will have a nice rug out of the deal.
I will try to do my part and take care of that coyotes family members here in colo-wyo
Good luck Bullet and get well soon.

Just read this, and it brings back memories of my husky. I had the same thing happen to my 8mo old red and white Husky, although she never made it back! Good luck to you and Bullet. Hell, now I'm Pi$$#& OFF. I just called in work and took the night off, I work 1400-2300, and I am going to re-load the FX3 with some new sounds and go settle the score this afternoon. The first coyote I see will be for Bullet!!!!! We know it won’t be Bullets bully, but some how, some way it could be the one that got my Husky.

Get well Bullet!!!!! And thumbs up to you, GC for the care you have given him.

GC

Thanks for the follow up story. It's hard to believe sometimes how attached we get to those little critters isn't it. Take care of Bullet and continued good luck.

I can't say I have killed a coyote without malice. They are very cruel killing machines in my opinion. They don't kill mercifully. I never worry about a wounded coyote. My motto is see em shoot em. Never give them a pass.

Took Bullet to the Vet for his first check up today. Couldn't get him in yesterday for his appointment because they don't have power due to the ice storm. His eye had me worried enough that I wouldn't postpone his appointment until next week as they asked and requested the doc look him over today. His wounds are looking pretty good. There are three really big open wounds that are still leaking plenty of fluids. However, they're healing and doing well. Bullet is still on meds and mending nicely. Except... his left eye.

The left eye has an ulcer that is threatning his vision in that eye. From the doc's description the infection was probably from a scratch Bullet got during the attack. Without immediate and strong attention he could lose his sight in the left eye. He has two ointments that we will place in the eye twice daily and should see improvement in the next three days. Otherwise, his sight is in jeopardy and we'll need to take him back for some other form of emergency type treatment. We'll have him back for another routine look over in a week. Keep your fingers crossed for his left eye.
