Widow maker: I would have loved to have seen that. The biggest flocks I've seen were along the Mississippi River when we were ice fishing. Probably migrating up the Mississippi Flyway, but nothing like what you encountered
We dabbled in it last year and had fun. Never killed more than 7-8 on a stand and would end the day with less than 20 most of the time. We have a season for some reason, but the landowner gets a nuisance permit. Crows will tear up a turkey nest so they got to go!! We did learn they are SMART! It ain’t just going out a shooting. You better be decked out in camo head to toe and have one heck of a hide.
It is definitely something to see. Happens every year near Notre Dame stadium.Widow maker: I would have loved to have seen that. Talking about "doing damage" my brother-in-law told me after WW2 his grandpa used to go to town and buy strychnine which was readily available and set poisoned corn spots around his fields prior to planting. The USDA actually had a formula to use. The war on humans may have been over, but it kept going strong on crows They blow up roosts, put on bounties , poisoned. Peters in the 30s even gave away ammo through a government program to farmers. The war on crows has never really ended.Mn there is a spring season(ended march 31) and a summer/fall season. Can't leave crows in the field. I think there still is a "doing damage" exemption for the rest of the year. I know of one Saturday morning "tournament" out of a gun club. More of a social hour after thing(bbq/beer).
