CZ 527 American

About to purchase a light rifle for walking. .223 is what I decided on. How is the accuracy of the CZ American with the standard barrel. I see that most post is on the Varmint version. A shorter, lighter rifle sounds good to this old man.

I have one of those Americans in .223, Jerry. I can shoot either 40 or 50 grain Vmaxes (have not tried anything heavier) into 1/2" at 100 yards. And you are right. It is a delight to pack around. About like a .22 rimfire.

I dont shoot it much for colony varmints as I prefer a heavier rifle for that but for sure it would be fine. I am more than pleased with the accuracy with it which is one reason why I have bought four of those 527's over the years. Love those set triggers!

For another option, you can get the "Varmint" model then have a few inches of the barrel cut off. I did this with my 17 Hornet which is the Varmint model and it turned out very well. I think it's right around 21 inches now, about the same as the "American" model and I'd bet there isn't but a few ounces difference between my now 21in. Varmint model and the American.

Accuracy should be superb with either as they cut and lap the barrels in the same place. Only difference is the American barrel will heat up a bit faster if shooting quickly or a lot. The varmint contour isn’t very thick compared to others too

Good choice Jerry.....my 527 American is my favorite walking varminter.

The 527 Carbines even lighter. My 223 Carbine weighs a tich over 6# all up and empty. I've only had it about six months but it's growing on me too.

Top to bottom.....
527 American
527 Carbine
452 American

RePete, Those CZs you posted sure are nice. The pretty wood and heavy stainless barrel sure pop on that 527 American. Did it come stock that way? Thanks for posting those good pics.

have owned cz 17hh and 204 and savage 17hh and 204

looks. cz wins. hands down.

accuracy. real close. edge might go to savage.

smoothness of action. both crappy.

cartridge feed from mag. savage beats cz by a hair in 17hh. 204 is a tie.

ugly mag hanging down. cz wins.

I bet the American shoots great as well. Love the CZ rifles! They have such a petite action in the 527. That would make a great walk around rifle. Plus, the triggers are pretty darn nice!

I've never quite understood the disdain that some have for how the magazine looks in the 527's. I understand it's one of those beauty is in the eye of the beholder kind of things but, for me, I barely even notice it.

Oh, and for those who aren't big fans of the CZ 527, don't forget to mention the safety is backwards, too.

Agreed....especially considering that replacing the hinged floorplate on 700's with a DBM that's twice the size of CZ's is all the rage these days.
I didn't love the magazine being at the balance point on my American so I had it shortened. Simple fix. I might do that to one of my Carbine's mags too but the price has doubled and I'm cheap soooo.

Cz's are a little rough at first but for an accurate, mid priced, Walnut stocked rifle with CRF, detachable magazine, and a set trigger that rifles costing 2-3 times as much can't compete....show me something better.

As for the safety....I've always said that if you're boggled by CZ's safety you probably shouldn't be handling firearms to start with.

I've had 527 Varmint models in 17 Rem & 223 and American models in 223 & 204 Ruger. The Americans were more accurate and carried a lot better.

While I agree that the Americans for sure were better to tote around I never got quite as good as accuracy out of them as I did the Varmint models. Might just be that I spent a bit more time developing loads for them though. For sure, they all shoot great.

What magazine do you use to feed your 300 Blackout?

I think it'd be really fun to screw my SAS Vengeance on the end of a 300 Blackout like this.
