December moon

We had our annual friends tourney last night. 4 teams, 11 guys total. We ended up the lucky team with 2 nice looking coyotes. One other team got a nice male, 32.5lbs. The coyotes were very vocal all night. We hunted from 9pm-9am. Very tired in the am. We ended with 7 sets. Scored on #6 and #7. Saw a total of 4 coyotes. First one came in after 25 mins of distress. My bother slapped him at 127 steps. Next set we started with distress, 2 min mark a nice coyote came very hard to 40yds! I shot her, and that was a blast because it ended up a daytime Coyote. 7:45 am. Waccum saw a coyote and a fox. Haven't heard from tka-250 or new coyote yet to see how there evening went. So far we have got 5 Nd coyotes, and 6 Mn yotes. Good luck out there! http://db.tt/hYpVB5ov

I made it out last night with a buddy of mine. I usaully go solo. We may 4 stands from 11:00 to 3:00AM (lots of driving to different spots). We only called one in on stand 3 and were in a shotgun only area. Both are barrels were pointed in different directions as the yote came in slow and we noticed him at 40 yards. As soon as we moved to shoot the yote turned and burned outrunning our shotgun blasts. [beeep], educated one!!

I've never heard of such an area either.

I shot these over the weekend. I really liked using the Foxpro shockwave the remote is solid, doesnt matter how cold it gets it works the same warm or cold, the range on the remote to the unit is amazing. I never wondered if it was close enough to turn on the caller.

All shot with Dtech 223 wssm 55grain NBT.

Maybe he was close to houses or livestock and it is a shotgun only area by choice?

Some WMA's close to residential are small game, shotgun, fine shot only (BBB or smaller)

Not to bash anyone on here, but it seems people go home when the clouds roll in, I feel its bright enought if the moon is within a few days of full even if you can't see the moon.

Good binoc's and a scope with extend your moon hunting. I have a decent Nikon on my 17 fireball and that thing if worthless under the moon unless its bright out, but my leupold on my 204 and my leupold binoc's have me hunting up to a week before the moon is full.

Heading out tonight if the wind stays calm, going to be a little chilly tonight.

Couldn't agree more... some nights can be a little strain on the eyes but still huntable.

I picked up this guy last night along with 3 others... glad I stuck it out when the clouds rolled in.

I doubt they even had permission a I was given soul rights on a few of the spots. I hunt just west of you and it's gotten too crowded here also. One guy I talked to has been using spotlight and centerfires, had to inform him of the laws. Spent better part of day scouting new areas and came up with a handfull of spots half a tank later. Most will give it up after they discover it's not as easy as it appears on t.v. Heck, most my calling partners have given it up! Gotta really have the desire to stick with this sport.
I hear ya. I found a few thousand acres east of me and some spots around Brainerd but it is tough like you said with gas the way it is and finding people to go. I am heading out tonight with a buddy to try some new ground. Have you ever hunted south of Wadena? I was thinking I have access on a farm south of Verndale so maybe I will knock on a few doors down there. I have a few spots your side of 71 but haven't hunted too close to Verndale for a number of years. There are critters there to be sure, used to run hounds with in-laws that way and did well. Might be a good option for you if we don't get more snow cover, takes a bunch to white out areas like Lyons. Good luck and don't let cloud cover stop you, I never have unless it's very dense.

Lead... I haven't heard from Rob yet. He has usually posted something by now... hopefully everything's okay.

Kollin... Unfortunately, I didn't get many pics of him. This is the only other one I have. He'll be on his way to the tannery soon, though.

Wow thanks for sharing. what a beauty. Congrats!!

I've heard from 2 people there's a coal black coyote south of me about 7 miles.. I might venture that way when the next moon comes around.

Made it out the other night for 5 sets in the chilly wind. First set was dry, Second set 35 minutes in I hear Hunter00 click the safety off....waiting for the shot, nothing. Find out after, one came in from across the highway (didn't count on that one). It surprised him coming through the trees and stopping at 30 yards. Rifle was the wrong direction Hunter00 tried to move for a shot and the gig was up. Third set I had one come out at about 500 yards...could only see him with the binos. I only saw it because I always scan before we end a set. I threw everything but the kitchen sink at it and it wouldn't react. I couldn't tell if it was ignoring me or couldn't hear my calls in the wind? Fourth and fifth sets we were dry. Called it night about 5am, great night to be out would've been nice to see more but...
