Well I got lucky and was able to get out after I read the kids a few books to put them to sleep. I didn't get out until about 10 pm.
I was going solo and to a couple new spots that I've been eyeing up since duck season.
The first spot was a small lake with a bunch of woods along the west and north side. Wind out of the east but very light. Almost calm.
I came in from the west and got to the lake and the [beeep] aireaters (sp) were going and I almost turned around and went back to the truck but I kept walking by it a ways and plopped down on the lake.
I put the caller and decoy out about 50 yards and went back to the edge of the woods along the shoreline. Lot of tracks.
I let things cool down for a minute or so and tried baby kittens on the foxpro for a few minutes. Then went to baby cottontail for about 10 mins straight adjusting the volume up and down. Then switched to pheasant distress for about 2 mins. Then shut it off.
About a minute later one pops out at 75 yards. The caller wasn't going. But it was looking right at the Jack in the box decoy. (Thanks to Frozen butt, he told me he uses a decoy at night, so I thought I would try)
I didn't have a shot there was fallen trees in the way. Dang it. I grabbed the remote and played pheasant distress 3-4 seconds then shut it off and it went back in the woods.
About a minute later it pops out at 35 yards staring at the decoy. Bang flop.
I was pumped, I let the coyote distress run for a minute or two and no more showed up.
Tried one more spot.nothing
Thanks to Frozenbutt for the decoy tip. Ill be using it again under the moon.
