Deep conceal gun?

So recent events have me thinking ccw again. I had a permit but let it expire because I could never figure out a way to actually carry.

Now there are some decent options like cell phone holsters, square in pocket sheaths.

I'm guessing that ruger lcp is about the best option for size. Though the 380 doesn't seem like much of a caliber.

What are my options?

I used to carry an LCP for deep carry but todays micro nines are a fraction bigger and offer 9mm power which I personally deem the minimum. Just remeber there is more to concealed carry than finding the smallest gun possible. You should actually carry the biggest gun you can conceal well. If you dont need the super small size of a micro or ultra compact 9mm, the sub compact Glocks are hard to beat.
I replaced my LCP with a Kahr CM9.

I carry the Glock 36, its one of the smallest guns Glock makes (I think) and its in 45 acp... it is a bit small for bigger hands, but it fits my medium hands fine. It holds 6 rounds in the mag, the only single stack glock makes. Or, if you want the same size get the glock 30, its the same thing just a bit fatter... I think it holds 13 rounds or 45 acp.

Not the smallest but close, here is a side by side of a 10mm(same size as the 30) and the G33 357Sig(same size as the 9mm G26 and 40G27)

I went looking for a new carry pistol as well yesterday. I found 3 that I liked that were very concealable. the S&W bodygaurd 9mm, Taurus TCP380 and the Ruger LCP9. All very nice pistols and while I REALLY liked the S&W Bodygaurd, I just really wish I could find a small pistol in 40S&W. I am not a heafty person so to actually "conceal" a weapon, it has to be smaller.

I consider a 9mm the absolute smallest cartrige for a carry pistol. If you have a larger frame I would be looking at a 40S&W or even a Kimber Super carry in 45 (Man I wish I could carry one of those concealed).

The trigger on the LC9 is horrible, IMO. I also dont care for manual safeties, personal preference I guess.

That is some good info to know so that eliminates that option. Thanks for the info!

Have you eyeballed the Sprngfield XDS .45?

I picked up an LC9 last year. The trigger is not like my M19 or 1911 but it's that way for a purpose. You don't need to use the safety since it's a double action so it's like shooting a revolver. I got used to it very quickly. It's small and light so it fits in the front pocket of my cargo shorts with no buldge. I've fired around 500 rounds through it and it never missed a beat.

Quality holster is everything. I'm 150# and carry the 19 and the .P3AT equally well

Take A look at the Springfield XDS went to Springfield Armory last week and looked at it. I will be buying one. .45 ACP and the newest ones have a 5 and 7 round Mag. very small. I have a glock 27 and like it but the XDS is much smaller.

I carry an Officers model 1911. Couldn't get used to double action triggers. Since the 1911 is a single stack magazine it tends to be thinner.

Don't sell the Ruger short. Like said, the triggers are lousey but they are that was on purpose. Accuracy is decent for a small pistol and reliability is great. No malfunctions what so ever from mine and its small enough to carry with out alot of weight. I carry a Glock 23 sometimes and its a bit heavier. But it shoots realllll good!

I don't carry any extra body weight so concealing is a major issue. I finally settled for the LCR in .357.. The trigger is ok for what its for.. It's not a target rig, it is for my personal protection and in the heat of the moment, I don't think I'll be concentrating on the weight and travel anyway.. I would rather carry a CDP .45 with a nice trigger but winter is the only time that I could conceal it. I figured I'd trade style and comfort for practicality..

If you haven't ruled out a wheel gun take a look at a Ruger lcr. Shoots .38 +P and theres a .357 mag version available. It's small, light, and has one of the better DA triggers I've used. Recoil is not bad at all in .38, gets a little frisky in +P and the .357 is, well, a .357.

Edit: looks like yotesalot beat me to it.

I carry a wide range of handguns on a daily basis. Two of my favs are the S&W 438 and the Taurus 740 Slim. I'll stack the 740 Slim up against ANY of the more expensive Kahrs, etc. any day. Why settle for a 9 or 380 when you can carry .40S&W in the same sized package? I love my Glock 36, too, but it won't fit in a pocket.

For what it is worth, the triggers on the LCPs, Bodyguards, and several of the other "small" pistols are atrocious. Little can be done to lighten them or shorten the pull, as the geometry of the firing groups and power of hammer strike limits what can be changed to affect the trigger pull. The Taurus Slim line of pistols has a very nice DA only trigger with double strike capability to boot.

1. Because I think the the .40 is the worst of the big 3 auto defense calibers
2. Because recoil with a 9 in such a small package is bad enough, I couldnt imagine shooting something so small in .40
3. I think double strike is a gimmick/pointless feature, but thats a debate for another thread

To each their own. Everybody has differnt tastes and requirements.

It's sometimes these discussions are almost like " Do these pants make my aXX look fat?".

Wear a size or two larger untucked shirt, IWB, good gun belt, pants a size larger... and get on with it. Your phyiscal size has nothing to do with it..your cover garment(s) yes.

Here is my t-shirt and shorts carry;
