DIY re-barrel of Rem. 700

Have made a couple recent posts on my blog about buying a used custom barrel and installing it on a Rem. 700. Putting together a fairly custom .20 Dasher on the cheap. Ended up with a Hart barreled 700 on a brand new ADL action with a very nice stock for less than the cost of a new Savage.

Figured some of you guys might find it kind of interesting.

DIY custom rifle.

Thanks for part 3 Dave. Ill be tuning in for part 4 when you get it complete.
Id like to know how you do your stress free bedding jobs.

Lefty, part 4 ought to be there Sat. morning.

No secrets on the bedding jobs, just standard practices that I think just about everybody uses - although there's certainly more than one way to get there. If using pillars, install them first, then make sure the barreled action can just sit down on them cleanly without any force before bedding around them and be careful not to introduce stress into the equation.

Have had a few that really gave me fits. Really heavy barrels on flimsy actions it is just about impossible to get a stress free bedding job without bedding some barrel shank too. But that's been pretty uncommon for me.

Well done again, Dave! You really know how to make a man jealous. You do some amazing stuff.

Now then- if you really loved your buddy Tim you would buy him a new hat!

- DAA I dream of someone perfecting the br family of cases in the ar 15 platform. It can and has been done but most feel it's pushing the envelope with the barrel extension.

Fun project. I don't get to shoot enough to justify building more guns, but I'd really enjoy doing something like this. I imagine the build process would be as much/more enjoyable than actually using it.

Me too, honestly. For a rifle like this anyway. I just don't do very much varmint popping anymore. Haven't for a long time. Do as much coyote hunting as I can, but I'm not likely to ever "need" another rifle for that, either. The ones I have now should way more than outlast me...
