Do I really need a Carry permit?

Bad facts on that statement. Walmarts official company policy is to go along with whatever the law of the land is. Does that mean you won't get flack if you open carry or someone spots your CCW and reports you to management? Nope. But if you have the legal right to carry Walmart allows it.

As for the OP's question....I think some of you are misinterpreting his question. He IS NOT asking if he should carry illegaly or get a permit, he is asking if the permit is worth the hassle and cost. The answer to that question is yes. I rarely carry for SD but it has it's advantages and piece of mind.

Walmart CORPORATE policy says its OK...but their "local stores" dont like it a bit and will ASK you to remove it or leave. Walmart CORPORATE policy sayd its ok for RVers to overnight park in their parking lots.....You can go to RVnet and copy the LIST or store that dont allow it.

I dont ask you to belive me..I dont CARE if you belive me or not. All I was doing was attempting to give the man a "head up" to not rush in thinking it OK when IT MAY NOT BE.

Physco: Having the permit doesnt mean you HAVE TO carry a weapon....it just allows you to do it legally is all.
Some evening when you have been away from your truck...calling Yotes...and you return to find some dude helping himself to your tires..well..they can come in handy at those times...along with the cell phone if you have coverage.

I carry mine even when in Yellowstone (totally legal)and the wife and I are away from the Jeep taking pics and chasing elk...

Years ago, before MO (and many other states) had the CC law and before the Feds passed the provision for retired LEOs to carry nationwide.

I jumped through Florida's hoops to get my CC Permit, just so I had some form of back up to my Retired police ID, as I traveled a lot of states to pistol matches and was always subject to being questioned...

It was just a little edge that might keep me from spending a night in custody, should the question come up..At least with the additional background check and documentation, I had proven that I was one of the better guys out on the street...

To me, it's worth having...

Not around here. Open carry will get you some funny looks, but CC is no problem at the Wally World. In fact, I carry routinely in three states (NM, AZ, and TX) and the only place I've seen a sign posted on a place that one could otherwise carry was at the IHOP in Cas Grande, AZ. I walked up, saw the sign, and turned around and had lunch somewhere else.

Ditto on Wally World in our area. Actually, if carrying (concealed) properly, no one would know it.

Here is what you needed for IHOP, DRam:

I would encourage you to get one. Whether you're coming or going to the range, hunting etc, is not the concern. Do you carry your handgun concealed?

In NV most counties take a common sense approach. Don't do anything stupid and you won't have any problems. Las Vegas is in Clark County. This county is a lot more restrictive b/c of the population and it's transient nature.

Handguns have to be registered in Clark County - you get a neat little blue card! Carrying concealed requires a permit and you can't carry even with a permit in state buildings, Costco (recent events - google Erik Scott), airports, schools, school parking lots, county vehicles unless you are LE.

I got mine b/c the laws in a neighboring city make it impossible to carry a weapon in your car while you're driving through it. The gun has to be kept separate from the ammo and only one of them can be in the cab of vehicle, the other has to be in the trunk. No provision is made for SUVs so you're automatically in violation if your gun is in the glove box and the ammo is in the back area b/c there is no trunk. The CCW allows me to be in compliance with all the county and different city laws.

Here is the STATE law: NV CCW Laws

Money well spent IMO.

I think you will benefit from your decision to get the CCW, pyscodog. Not any real downsides and several benefits:

Many years ago, the Texas statute governing handguns read, it is against the law to carry a handgun "on or about your person, or in your saddlebags, except while travelling".

I spent the day working on blinds at the deer lease two counties from home and was on my way home when ran into a "drivers license check" about three miles from the house. There were several different agencies involved, so suspect they were looking for something specific using the DL check.

Any rate, when I pulled up to the DPS officer and handed him my DL, he asked if I knew the penalty for carrying "one of those things on your back seat"?

I explained that it was a .22 cal. handgun (in a covered holster)that I carried when working on my blinds two counties away and quoted the part about "while travelling", thinking I was on firm ground, especially w/state troopers, who are usually most courteous and businesslike IME. Well, I suspect someone had given this trooper a hard time, as he seemed to have a burr under his saddle and continued to give me some grief, stating, "you have to cross two county lines to be considered a bonafide traveller". Well, I named the three county lines I had crossed to get to the lease and he asked when I went to the ranch. When I replied that I had gone up early that morning, he replied, "well you have to stay out of your county 24 hours to be a traveller"; to which I replied,"well, the ball is in your court, you can either arrest me or turn me loose", biting my tongue all the while.

He decided against arresting me, but many years later, when the CCW license became available, I was first in line to avoid such hassles. You never know when you will run across that (very rare) LEO with a burr under his saddle and that can mess up your day.

As has been stated, an added benefit is not having to wait for ffl to run the NICS check when purchasing a firearm.

hm

I guess its better to have it and not need it than the opposite. Good deal. Best of luck on the course and when ya get it be cool. Others have a right not to see your gun just as you have the right to carry one. To expect respect is to give it as well. Hopefully you will never have to use deadly force. Heres mine strapped up for yard and house carry. We have had scumbags do door kick downs midday in these parts. I like to be prepared.

There isn't a blanketed "If you have CCW you don't need to have a NICS check on a 4473" law. The ATF decides which states would be eligible to do just that. Kansas got CCW in ~07 maybe? KS CCH permits only as of JUNE 2011 (4yrs later) you can now use your permit to bypass NICS checks. They also put a stipulation in that the permit has to be 6/1/2010 or newer.

Any person from out-of-state can carry one in their vehicle while "on a peaceful journey" through the state...But what isn't stated in the law is that any "Breach of the Peace" can throw them into violation and even excessive speed or other traffic violation, has been known to constitute a "Breach of the Peace" in some local jurisdictions..

Actually, in Missouri the 'car carry' provision applies to anyone over 21 who can legally possess the gun. The 23 age requirement is for the ccw permit. Also, the age 23 requirement for ccw is about to be dropped to 21. The change was passed by the legistlature and is waiting to be signed by the governor. It should then go into effect on August 28th.

The 'peacable journey' provision in Missouri doesn't really mean much any more because the car carry provision is not limited to Missouri residents. Nice that it is there, though.

Even if you don't intend to carry your gun often, the ccw permit protects you from the Federal Gun-Free School Zone law if your permit is from your home state and the school you are passing is also in your state. This applies to any gun your are carrying, including your coyote rifle. Technically, if you don't have a permit and drive within 1000 ft. of a school with any gun that is not in a locked case or totally inaccessible you are committing a 5-year federal felony. In my neck of the woods, rifles and handguns are often carried in an accessable manor. It is a good thing this law is rarely enforced, because during Missouri's deer season a cop could arrest a thousand violators a week in my county alone! It is good to be protected from this law by the permit even if you never carry your handgun.

I wanted my wife to go also. She runs to the store and does arrands by herself all the time. Tulsa and Broken Arrow has quite a bit of crime and violence and I wished she would get her's also. She refuses as of now. You know the type, Wonder Woman, Super Girl. She thinks she's a Bad arse in her 120lbs. soaking wet!! Maybe after I get mine, I can convience her. Of course, she'll have to have a nice new pistol!! (That I could be so kind to pick out for her.)

get it and carry it. we just had a little shoot out in our walmart parking lot. about ten min after me and my family had left. always be prepared. and unless there is a notice on the entrance of a building telling you no weapons permitted, you can carry. but be polite and carry concealed. and after reading plenty of sullys posts i wouldnt give 2 cents to hear anything he has to say. i carry in walmart all the time. even [beeep] concealed i have been reported twice. usually carry on ankle. both times management and popo have approached me politely and once i showed my permit and that i was legal i was left alone and finished my visit to the store.
