Dog vs yote

I believe a large dog, with the right disposition, is capable of killing the average coyote, one on one. Lab or otherwise. I once had a ninety pound Weimeraner kill a crippled coyote. This coyote was greatly weakened, but the Weim literally picked it up just behind the shoulders, and shook it like it was a rat. He couldn't catch a healthy coyote, as they outran him.

I have Anatolian Shepherds, and have no doubt they would kill a coyote, if they caught one.

Wolf versus dog....gotta go with wolf on that one. I have trapped a couple dozen wolves, and have seen what they can do to a steel trap, and anything else within reach.

Lots of folks make the claim that their dog can kill a coyote. Im not saying there aint any big dogs out there that could, but the average pet or even hunting dog will have their hands full. I promise you that. Ive had several seasoned coyote dogs and I have yet to have one that could kill a coyote.

Why you would want one that could is beyond me.

owned a pit in my younger days that i would of bet on to kill a coyote. he was big, strong, never seemed to feel pain, had no quit in him and was overall kind of crazy. once seen him pick up a full grown irish setter by the chest and shake it like a rag doll.

a coyote would of surely slashed him from head to tail. but he would not of even known it. once that crazy sucker clamped down on the head, throat or chest it would of been all over.

Anything is possible...

Coyote here in FL are not too large.

I've personally seen two working dogs, Belgian Malinois, I'd bet the farm on in a 1 on 1 confrontation. Both were removed from service due to their uncontrollable violent disposition.

....because the Anatolians are guarding livestock....

I get that. I'm talking coyote hunting dogs. I dont deal with sheep dogs etc.

I have seen several walker and curr hounds kill coyotes on their own, once a coyote is off his feet they are not a tuff animal. I have choked down a few that were bayed and it was surprising how little fight they put up.

I owned a German Shorthair female about 15 years ago who killed two coyotes, on separate occasions, while pheasant hunting. Each kill happened in under a minute. In each instance, she immediately got the coyote by the throat and began to shake violently. Now, this was no ordinary shorthair..........she was an extreme alpha in nature, hated other dogs, and was not fond of people. She was not vicious towards people in any way, just wanted nothing to do with them. She wouldn't ever take food or a treat from my hand, from the time she was a pup. All she wanted to do was hunt......and she was the best bird dog I ever owned. Sadly, I had to get rid of her when I got another shorthair, because she beat the snot out of her on a regular basis. However, (call BS if you like) I watched her make short work of those two Midwestern coyotes.

I was literally just talking about this this morning. My uncle ran faxes with very large fox hounds. We know when they get after a yote because after a while we usually hear a howl calling for back up. A coyote is no match for a pack of fox hounds. One on one I wouldn't want to see cause I really don't know which way it will go. My grandpa raises chickens and has a great perines(sp) and have witnessed him literally rip a 30lb yote to pieces. ( Fenced in lot, got in and couldn't get out)Even with how violent it was I still wouldn't want to see it against a wolf. I don't think it would stand a chance.

I had a crazy mean chihuahua that made short work of a wolf... barely even recognizable after he was done with it, nothing but blood and fur....

on a real note though im on the fence about this one.. Ive seen some pretty tough dogs out there.. never seen a fight with a yote before though..

LOL

Must have been related to ol' Stuffy! Stuffy belonged to a friend of mine and he didn't know he was a Chihuahua; he'd fight a buzz saw! Neighborhood dogs twice his size gave Stuffy wide berth.

When we were 11-12 years old, we'd wander around the Rio Grande with our pellet guns hunting and fishing back when there were still a few beaver left. Stuffy always tagged along, just spoilin' for a fight.

One day he discovered a beaver house along the bank and found an opening. Before we could call him off he disappeared into the darkness inside the house. Pretty soon, we hear him barking frantically. Then there was lots of commotion, punctuated by loud barking and growling. Did you know beavers growl!? Well, we didn't, but they do!

We thought old Stuffy had reached the end of the road for sure, but after what seemed like a very long time, Stuffy came flying out of the beaver house like the devil hisself was after him. He held 'em off quite a while, but finally had sense enough to run.

Regards,
hm
