Shooting fish in a barrel???? Is that an East Coast penned hunt? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif And how would you know about such evil events?

So would you surround them first? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Just curious. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Your right Redfrog ... that is a term for an East Coast penned hunt (meaning not very difficult at all) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. No, I wouldn't bother surrounding them ... I'd just pull out my 30-06 semi and mow all 70 down! LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You have me curious ECH ...are there wild elk in NS ??? If so tell us about them and hunting there....or if not ....how you get all of your info about reserves and wild elk. Feels like you are just stirring the pot unless you have first hand experience with all of this . I know Canada has many wild game "places" , for lack of better term , that the public can go and see deer ,elk , moose ,bears , wolves , ect. I plan to visit some myself this summer on vacation . Do you propose all of these establishments be done away with in the name of protecting all wild animals from disease ????? SM

Very Interesting how guys like GWH and Bucther45 have to resort to labelling guys as PETA or other ARA
How old are you GWH? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I have gone through all of my post on this thread and I have never accused anyone of being PETA or ARA. You on the other hand have.

This is even more funny / sad when you consider that these are the guys posting links to said ARA sites!

Yes I posted those threads. So you could find your way to the antis that support your position on Game farms and hunting in general.

Just so I am clear and know what I am permitted to do in the all seeing all knowing eyes of EastCoastHunter. What kinds of hunting/shooting would you like to see outlawed? Please give me a list so I know.

Okay. I am confused. What is your possession on game farms are they okay just not in states were the animals on them occur naturally or no game farms?

I've been trying to tell you the whole post that you were confused. How many times do I have to say I think game farms suck, and the hunting on them gives hunters black eyes and are detrimental to all hunting, period. The reason the hunting on them should be banned in states with wild populations is obvious. You would never get ride of them in Texas, as most people there consider this hunting. Go figure!

It wasn't ever about game farms to begin with, and certainly not about telling you what to like. It's page ten, 4100fps, and you still haven't noticed that. Everyone else understood and identified with the post until you started in on game farms, which was a small part of a much larger story. It was even explained to you by another member of this forum how and why you missed the point right after your initial post. It is you that is having comprehension problems 4100fps.

Oh! That's exactly what it was about, go back and re-read the first post Butcher45 wrote. He tried to tell us that we should overlook how and where others hunt for the good of the sport. I say for the good of the sport those that hunt un-ethically, shouldn't for the good of the sport.

EastCoastHunter I bow fish for carp does that make me unethical the lack is 1660 acres?

Since you seem to have the market cornered on hunting ethics, would you educate me as what types of hunting are on the good hunting list and which ones are on the bad list/ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I will explain to and educate anyone who wants to listen and learn what I know... anyone who wants to know more about wildlife husbandry , PM me .....otherwise I think I have made my case and defended my point with facts and proofs . I have a large investment in this issue in time and money and having to defend my rights as a USA citizen against other hunters is not something I am looking forward to, but see it coming . SM

Is a prairie dog a type of hunt or rather a species to hunt?
If you don't know the difference between right and wrong or good and bad then your mommy didn't do a very good job of raising you.

Any type of hunting that's legal would be considered fine.
It's how people take legal hunting and mutate it into game farms that makes it unethical.

I've read about 1/2 the posts on the prairie dog issue, then cheated to find out what's happened since the first post. Seems the sky hasn't fallen yet. I don't have prairie dogs here and never hunt them,(I thought about trapping some a making a transplant so we would have a town). I'm sure if the population can handle hunting then it should be so. I don't think they should be exterminated.

4100fpe,eastcoasthunter,prohunt; I know where you get your info now! Copied from the PETA web site;

Canned Cruelty
Most hunting occurs on private land, where laws that protect wildlife are often inapplicable or difficult to enforce. On private lands that are set up as for-profit hunting reserves or game ranches, hunters can pay to kill native and exotic species in “canned hunts.” These animals may be native to the area, raised elsewhere and brought in, or purchased from individuals who are trafficking in unwanted or surplus animals from zoos and circuses. They are hunted and killed for the sole purpose of providing hunters with a “trophy.”

Canned hunts are becoming big business—there are an estimated 1,000 game preserves in the U.S.(22) Ted Turner, who owns more land than any other landowner in the country, operates 20 ranches, where hunters pay thousands of dollars to kill bison, deer, African antelopes, and turkeys.(23)

Animals on canned-hunting ranches are often accustomed to humans and are usually unable to escape from the enclosures that they are confined to, which range in size from just a few yards to thousands of acres. Most of these ranches operate on a “no kill, no pay” policy, so it is in owners’ best interests to ensure that clients get what they came for. Owners do this by offering guides who are familiar with animals’ locations and habits, permitting the use of dogs, and supplying “feeding stations” that lure unsuspecting animals to food while hunters lie in wait.

Only a handful of states prohibit canned hunting, and there are no federal laws regulating the practice at this time.(24) Congress is considering an amendment to the Captive Exotic Animal Protection Act that would prohibit the transfer, transportation, or possession of exotic animals “for entertainment or the collection of a trophy.”(25)

The point of view you are putting out is very similar. What will you think is unethical next?

Butcher45 you look about 22 -- not alot of year nor experience under your belt yet! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I didn't "resort" to labeling anyone an ARA or PETA, I labeled them as useful idiots. I also didn't post a link to any animal rights web-site like you said I did. What they hell are you talking about?
I said those writers were dividing hunters, and one of them was clearly anti-predator hunting. Being that I am posting on a predator hunting board, I didn't think I needed to pursue an argument against his view.
How old are YOU, and have you had your nap today?

The game ranch was in the story, but it wasn't the moral of the story. You refuse to grasp that.

Butcher45, it is pointless. These people never read the original post and they see the words high fence and they all get bent out of shape. I understand you original post and believe thats what is happening to our HUNTERS today. Joe believe "his way" is the only way anyone should hunt and thats that. It's not the only way. So watch out for Bob because there is alot of Bob's out there. If you read the origianl post I hope you would understand.

Butcher, like I said earlier, these people have not a clue.

Interesting post. So are some of the other ones too. Can we at least have penned hunts for hippies- like say no more than 1 mllion hippies per acre? I need to go get another bowl of cheerios now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just put a fence around Eugene, Oregon, and your there! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wackmaster,

All you have to do is observe a game farm to come up with these assertions.

I see you don't live by your signature:

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted...If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job.

Jose Ortega y Gasset, Meditations on Hunting.

Game farms you hunt in to kill, 100% of the time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Butcher45... you sat in your 5.32 pm post that you didn't link any ARA sites. I will concede that that is techenically correct, but you did link plenty on anti-hunter garbage articles in your 08/05/08 4.53 pm post incluuding three from some organization called New West Environment entitled:

1. Origan's Cougar Hunt - A Return to the Dark Ages.

2. Idaho Wolf Plan Panders to Hunters and Ranchers.

3. Montania Conservationists Defend Obama on Registry, Gun Issues.

And I could go on.

It is not the ant-canned, anti-high fenced crowd that has to turn to the ant-hunter extremists to defend our positions or beliefs. In fact thoughout this whole tread, its has been the gut's with financial interests in high fenced and canned hunting that have quoted these sources and provided links to both their sites (in the case of GWH) and their articles (i.e. you). Why is that?

gwh ... bow fish all you like and good luck BTW.

As spiderman aka Peter Parker has truthly said paraphrased by me "He has a large investment in time and money invested in hid game farm" ... does that make his opiniom seem unbiased and objective to you? If so I have some swamp land (soon to become valuable) to sell you!

And WHY did I post those anti-hunter garbage links? To point out division amongst hunters.

You say that you thought at first glance they were ARA folks. However, they were written by outdoors writers that claim to be hunters!

This post is supposed to be about hunters uniting, rather than turning us against each-other like those writers are trying to do.

Did you take the time to read any of those links, or where they came from (not PETA or HSUS affiliated)?

Read the Oregon Cougar article. It does sound read like a PETA member wrote it, obviously you are in agreement with that. I never said they were PETA, though George Wuerthner sure seems to share their opinion when it comes to predator and varmint hunters.

Do you see the point now? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
