On the other hand, while I've seen a few Douglas barrels come through our range that shot pretty well (but not exceptional), my buddy had a 700 (243) rebarreled with one by a smith I've used and trust about six months ago and he's still looking for a load it'll shoot.
Course that's just one barrel but still, ???
Personally, if I'm going to the trouble and expense of trueing and chambering, I don't think I'd buy either.
As usual, JMO and worth what you paid for it.
Well chosen words, Mr.Repete.
As I mentioned previously, I own two rifles with Shaw barrels that I had specifically built for rough vehicle use in South Texas. The two barrels were readily available to the smith, and since the builds were "budget/utilitarian tool" jobs, I told the smith to use them. They are both acceptable in terms of accuracy, but both barrels copper foul very easily.
I too would not use neither of the two barrels discussed here for a quality rifle build, but if I had to for some reason, and I had a choice, it would be a Douglas long before a Shaw. For a good build, I'd spend a few dollars more and get a lot more value in some other quality made and polished barrel.
Just my opinion.
