Favorite Camo????

tt35, I just happened to be talking to the owner of M2D camouflage earlier this week on the phone. Not only was Predator Extreme not in bed with his company, he was not even aware his camouflage was going to be in the article. He commented that he would have liked to have known about the article because he would have bought an ad in that issue. I was talking to him because I am impressed with their camouflage and was long before the article came out. It is perfect for the kind of country I hunt. I ordered a full set, and I'm looking forward to giving it my own hard-core field test very soon.

It was a little sarcastic... but, that's just me. It cracks me up when articles are quoted... but there's little or no actual experience by the person doing the quoting. I KNOW Natgear works well in every single area I hunt... from Pacific NW rain forest (where everything is green)... to sage flats and desert. How do I know? Been there, done that.

How come deer and elk aren't "camoflage"? Because they are broad-based camo... they don't look like their environment, they are their environment. What happens is, we look right through them. There's no deceptive lines, patterns, or colors... just flat brown... yet, we walk past them at 10 yards. Truth be told... I think the "best camo" is sitting still... you do that, and it really doesn't matter much what camo you're wearing.

I have to agree that staying as motionless as possible is the key. ('course, we all have to move a little--to work calls, slight turn of heads to see 180* unless you have super side vision, ect.)

But given the normal terrain I hunt, open pastures, my choice is MO Brush. When possible, I mix it with Open Country.

Thought I might stir some people up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ursus: Good to know on PX. I feel better about life now.

Camo choices are about as personal as caliber choices. Step on someone's favorite pattern and ...Look Out! I think I stroll on over to the Firearms Section and see what trouble I can get in over there!

REALLY, everyone have a great day! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

tt35, to be honest when I first saw the article I was thinking the same thing you were. It's one of the reasons I brought it up in the conversation on the phone as I wanted to smoke if there was any back scratching going on. His genuine reply surprised me. In fact, the owner is a pretty cool and entertaining guy to visit with over the phone. I ordered the camo on Tuesday and got it in the mail today. That is seriously FAST! Can't wait to break it in. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i think we over infasize on our camo. fella ought to buy what he can afford, this ain't no fashion statement we're trying to make. spend a little more time in the outdoors and littleless on the coach.

Well, my good buddy uses a piece of wool Army blanket with a head hole cut through the middle and he's got 3 Blacktail deer in the state record book. If you sit still, anything that breaks up your form and is a neutral tone seems to work well.

I like your cammo. I see you don't have matching hat and scarf. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Quarterbored, I think you have the right basic idea though some break up in the overall colouring is good. Years ago a friend took black&white photos of about 4 of us in our hunting stuff standing about 5yds in the bush. The best camo was....ready for it....the old army stuff from WW2. Everything else did a good job but the best by a long shot was that old stuff. Tried a similar photo 3 years ago in winter. To camo my rifle I just wrapped white electric tape in an irrgular pattern around a wood stocked Tikka. Showed the photo to lots of people and NOBODY could pick up the rifle leaning against a tree about 8yds away even though I made no attempt to otherwise try to hide it. It was in plain view, sunny day, lots of snow and leaning face on to the tree. I even asked people to find the rifle in the photo and I only remember 1 person finding it after a long stare. We look at camo close up in a store but I think we should choose it by looking from at least 50 yds.

I like Predator camo, Realtree HD & "No Trace." I'd never seen "Multicam" until this thread, though - That stuff looks AWESOME for spring, summer and early fall here in Texas! Is that stuff available in a lighter weight cotton pant/shirt?

Here in Western Oregon, I called a coyote to within 15 yards while wearing RealTree APHD. It was headed straight for me, and didn't see me on the berm, sitting in the treeline (of course I was motionless).

I raised my rifle so it would see motion in it's peripheral vision and stop for a look before reaching cover, but even then I don't think it saw me.
