REPETE i have to say mate you hit the nail on the head ,yes you are right i used to have a 17 rem never looked at the 17 fb i will have to take alook at the 17 fb who makes a rifle in 17fb now are they still making them ,atvb steve

Yea,,,, still lots of Remingtons out there.
Unfortunatly Remmy's the only one that chambers rifles in 17FB (except for Cooper/Dakota etc) but the Remmy's all seem to shoot pretty good with the factory Remmy ammo and even better with reloads so It's all good.
I made my own by having a CZ527 in 221 re barreled to 17FB.
It's probably my favorite rifle.
I use it for everything from Coyotes,
to Cats
to Rock Chucks,
to Gophers
Surely it'll kill a Fox or Wabbit.
The 17Rem's a good choice too IMO (I have two).
Heck, they're all good for your needs, but the mild mannered 17Hornet and 17FB are just so pleasant to shoot I end up grabbing one of the two 90% of the time.
Good luck in your quest and by all means, let us know what you decide. (Preferably with pix of deceased Fox and Rabbits.)

Not sure about the "Fad" thing concidering it's been around for half a century.
Everything else is sure true though. It's definatlya "Niche" round, and I know that I truely dread making cases for my 17AH.
Same thing could probably be said about the 17FB. "Niche", you bettcha, but the M4's been around as long or longer than the 17Hornet so I wouldn't exactly call it a Fad, although Remmy releasing it as the 17FB did spike interest in it for a while.
Same thing'll probably happen with the HH if anyone ever produces rifles for the dang thing. IDK

Again, I find myself agreeing with Charlie.
I like the CZ rifles a bunch. This is a 17 Mach IV with a Pacnor barrel I had done up about 6 years ago, best I can remember. I've only killed coyotes and a couple Jackrabbits out west with it. I don't have much experiance with the 17 Hornet, but do prefer the little 221 FB platform, whether it be a 221, 20, or 17 cal.
I slimmed down and re-checkered the stock when it was put together, but it has gotten a little character scarring since from carrying in the field.

That that little 221 case has gotta be one of the things to ever come down the pike.
Probably the best bullet to powder ratios of all the 17cal's, although I like em all.

I hear you Charlie. The fad thing I put in there just because it is being pushed now [the 17 HH], but I believe it will fade. Potentially a great round. Just not for the main stream.
I guess that is why we will play with wildcats and choose to reload.
