Firearm sales and regrets?

After reviewing the classifieds I couldn't help but reflect back on a rifle that I sold a few years back to fund an AR project. The rifle was a .280 Rem Mtn. Rifle. This rifle shot the daylights out of my other hunting rifles with a barrel half the weight and was a dream to carry. I've regretted selling that rifle from the day I sold it. Curious if you all have had similar regrets and what the rifle was.

I picked up a Howa Sporter 22-250 with the Hogue Overmolded stock a few months ago, never fired a shot out of it, just traded it tonight for a new Springfield XD-45 Compact, I'll regret not knowing how well the Howa would shoot, but did I get a great trade or what ?

Yep, A 788 Remington in a 308 that would shoot lights out and a 600 Rem in a 350 Rem. Great to carry. short, and very accurate. Still crying.

I regret selling my FIRST firearm. I went out with my friends the day I turned 18 (they all turned 18 only days before), and we all bought 10/22s on sale. Somehow I managed to keep that rifle in stock form for a whole year...until I discovered RimfireCentral. I worked on that thing non-stop, polishing the ENTIRE action, doing every single mod, shimming every little spring and pin to perfection, machining my own custom parts...it was an entirely different gun, and I loved it. That little rifle was slick as butter and stacked the rounds on top of each other all day long. My summers revolved around that gun, and it holds more great stories than I can even recall.

Upon having to settle-up my first years' tuition I decided to sell my beloved little 10/22. I was tickled that I got much more than I put into it, but in the long run it was merely a drop in the ocean of tuition costs. I have tried tracking it down, but I don't think I'll ever see it again

Tons of regrets to many to list probally the most regret. My dad had a really nice rem 700 adl in 22-250 he then went out and bought a new 700 bdl 22-250 he told me if i got All As and Bs for half the school year he would give me the ADL. I was in the 6th or 7th grade. I tryed my butt off the first half the year and missed it by one C. So i buckeled down the last half because he ment All As and Bs would not buge a bit on the one c i got. so i keep after it and made it my last half the year All As and Bs mostley B- but hey i was there. Showed dad my report card and he gave me the rifle. Like a stupid dumb azz kid i moved out when i hit 18. I had a worthless girl friend that would not get a job. I took it to the pawn shop and pawned it for 175.00 and it had a nice redfield scope on top. Never picked it up. I have tryed to track that rifle for many years and still havent caught up to it. Many memmories behind the trigger of that gun. If i could find it today and knew it was my old adl i would give 2000.00 for that rifle. O well we live and learn. Another one is my first shotgun my dad bought me for christmas. A new remington 1100 LT 20ga. Same story second verse all most. I sold it to a lady in a trailer court for 450.00 at the time 13 yrs ago. The cops came to me a week later wanting to know about the gun. Told them i sold it to a lady and delivered it to her house and asked why they were asking about it. She shot her self with that shotgun a week later. Those are probally the two that come to mind more then any of the ones i have gotten rid of.

Ruger Super Blackhawk 10 inch barrel stainless 44 magnum. I did not have any use for it but it sure was neat. Oh well never look back. Oh yea Remington Model 31 12 guage pump shotgun. God that thing was smooth.

Ruger #1V 25-06. Work was slowing down and I wasn't getting many hours and had to have some cash. I've regreted it ever since, I didn't shoot it much anymore but I still loved that rifle.

Sold a Browning Sweet Sixteen. Had it for over thinty years. One of my first guns. It had sat in the cabnet about seven years with out being touched. Drove 91 miles, came home with mi first Winchester model 70 Coyote in .243. Regret selling that gun. Should have ben saving for a biger gun cabnet.

Like deerhunter, I have many regrets. One of my most regretful trades was a Rem.VS/223. Traded it and a large handful of cash for a Cooper that I just had to have. The Rem. shot just as good as the Cooper and I like the feel of the Rem. better. It just seemed to fit me better. Then traded the Cooper for a Styer that I grew to hate. It was a 308 that would kick so hard it would shake the fluid in your eyes. DUMB,DUMB,DUMB!!! This is only one deal, I could go on forever.

I have several too but my main one is a High Standard Double Nine that I bought from Dad. That was the gun that he used and then I used for a trapping gun all the years I was growing up. I sold it to a co-worker to buy a S&W K22 which I still have. I have tried to buy the High Standard back several times, but the guy won't sell it back. He isn't shooting it either so if I ever do get it back, at least it won't be worn out.

Thompson Center Contender. The first gun I bought with my own money. Traded it in for a Ruger 22-250. STUPID! STUPID STUPID!!!!

After reading all your replies about these other guns. I have another that was/is nearly as painful as the mtn. rifle. I had a ruger single six, with both cylenders that I tranded for a new Johnny Stewart 612 and a few tapes. I think I used that caller twice before I decided it was too heavy and the speaker wire was a pain in the a$$. I'll end up replacing this one, but can't believe how much they've gone up in price.

Funny I had a .280 rem Mtn. rifle I sold last yr to help offset the cost of a R-15.

The gun was a tack driver and shot my first of several Elk with it.All these guns have their place. It was good in the mountains for what it was intended for.I always used a good tree or rest if it was a long shot and my sling for offhand.I found it a bit squirelly if you tried to just shoot it offhand steady. So I hope it found a hunter and not a safe queen.

My first .22 was a Ithica lever action .22.I think my Dad paid 25 or so bucks for new.I kinda wish I haden't traded that now.But in the end times change as well as your needs and they are just materialistic things.

Not a rifle but I did trade away my Ernest Langdon Sig P220 and was probably the worst thingyet, im sure i'll top that at some point.

Traded a High Standard Victor target pistol bought for $145.00 new in 1978 for a new Browning BPS pump shotgun in 1987. Wish I had kept the Victor. Sold my Ithaca model 37 16 gauge pump to a friend in college. Wish I had it back.

In 1978 I traded off my Winchester model 12 WS1 skeet gun for a new Remington 700 BDL in .22-250, along with a scope, rings, sling, and a handful of cash. I've regretted doing that since the moment I got home with the rifle.

I just started buying and selling guns. So far i don't regret any sales but i regreted purchases!

I regret that stupid 10/22! it was just a money hole and will never shoot like a cz bolt gun! but now i know i'm bolt gun kinda guy. when i got it i thought shooting paper was stupid now i'm addicted to shrinking groups.

Ithaca 37 pre war I really like this little gun but should have looked closer to find the stock had been cut to fit a recoil pad and should have realized I couldn't just drop on a new shorter barrel. Now i know don't buy your primary gun used! I want no gun that has been tinkered with unless it was by me !

I got the rem 870 express 12 guage 28 inch. No regrets it was a great learning gun I carried it almost two years and I wore through the finish on the wood i carried it so much. Perfect to find out I love rabbit/upland making that big 12 too heavy! if it had been a 20 I would have kept her for rainy days.

CZ bobwhite 20 guage. what a waste fired 100 round it whacked me in the face a bunch and the triggers awful couldn't stand that double barrel or safety location oh and can't get my frozen cold hands with glove between two triggers. atleast now i know and won't have to spend 2,000 on a sxs to find out!

In the last few years I learned a ton! Never buy a rifle that doesn't say cz, sako, tikka, annie, or BRNO!

Keep any gun that shoots moa out of the box!

always ask on internet forums and listen to the folks who have been shooting along time like IDBOB bless his soul thats how i got a 527 varmint!

don't buy used if you don't know exactly what to look for!
