Firearm sales and regrets?

Grizz here, I have two. I once owned an HK91 (308) back in the 80s and this thing would put shot after shot in an inch all day long with open sights. When I shot this weapon at the local range, it would out shoot most of the rifles on the line that were scoped! I can't remember why I sold it or what I got for it, all I know is I WANT IT BACK... Second, I had a rare Sako varmenter heavy barrel in 270 Win on the AIII action. I bought this new from Jim Lutes of Whitewater Kansas. Jim was one of the founders of the old Sako Collectors Assoc. Only 14 of these rifles were imported into the United States. It had an oil finished stock, red rubber recoil pad, beavertail forarm, cheek piece, and monti carlo comb. I shot coyotes with it using 110 grain Sierra flatbase spitzers. The rifle would not shoot boatails, but would put 5 of these Sierras into a half inch. I was not satisfied with the velocity out of the weapon, so like a moron I used the action to build my first and only simi custom rifle. I built a 240 Weatherby varminter. I made two mistakes on this build. First, I didn't ask for a short throte and I got the standerd Weatherby chamber with all that FREEBORE. Could not get the 80 grain bullets anywhere near the lands. Second mistake, the firing pin assembly on a Sako AIII does not come apart and I had all the steel black teflon coated. When the teflon coating was baked on the firing pin assembly, the heat weakend the firing pin spring and that slowed the lock time down to a crawl. The rifle never shot up to my expectations so I sold it. Should have just left it alone, Grizz

20yrs ago, I did some horse trading and got screwed on a couple guns, my fault. But I decided then that I only bought guns I really wanted and sold none. I have lived upto that until this spring when I sold a rem sendero in 270. I don't regret it though.

I've only sold one gun and started to regret it not long after. My second gun given to me by my father was a Stevens pump .410. I sold it to a guy I worked with about 15 years ago. Now my dad is gone and the gun is, too. I do still have his model 94, though.

I have three regets:
First was a Savage 219 in 22 hornet.
Second was a Winchester 97, 12ga shotgun 32 inch barrel only shotgun that consantly hit anything pointed it at. It was truley on the money.
Third was a TC 50 cal. Hawken.
I made a plage to myself never to sell or trade any guns. I have kept that pledge to this day.
I have a few that are safe queens but they seem to cycle to the front of the safe from time to time. If I ever get a chance I will get another Modle 97 and 219. Great guns.
The only one that I currently have that I really do not like is a Savage modle 40 in 22 hornet. But it is relagated to the back corner of the safe.

When I first wanted a coyote gun I decided I wanted a bolt action in .223 with a detachable mag, used, for a low price. I found a Remington 788 in .22-250 that was close enough, at the price, to do for awhile.

Disappointing at first because it was keyholing at 25 yards, it turned out to be a good, accurate rifle after I cleaned out the copper fouling. I sold it eventually and got .223 Handi-Rifle, which I love and will certainly keep. But even though I still don't particularly want a .22-250, I think I should have kept the 788 because it was a very good shooter, and a great gun for the money. It is nice to know, though, that the fellow who bought it from me really wanted a .22-250 and was very happy with my old 788.

A Savage 99 in 243 ingraved with a bull elk on one side and if I remember right a whitetail on the other and it was beautiful work to

An M1A that I had set up with an ArtIV Scope and 5 Mags. Traded it and a Mini 14 so I could have an O/U Trap Gun. After that lesson I told my wife never again. Once we get a Gun it stays until we die then it moves on in the Family. When my Wifes Father died she got all but one of his Guns. We have given some of them to the kids but have most of the rest of them that we will hand down to Grandkids if we ever have any or Nieces and Nephews.

This is embarassing. Once in the late 70s I had a bull barrel M77 Ruger 22-250. It was heavy but man did it shoot. Unfortunately being young and stupid I thought I needed a semi auto and traded it for a Mini 14. What a complete POS idea that was.

On the plus side I also had a Beretta 380 for awhile during the same time period. I decided it didn’t have enough power for me and traded it for a used Series 70 Colt 1911. That was a good move. I still have the Colt and will never sell it.

What idiot I was when young and immature. Traded a Browning 1886 45/70 Beretta .380 and a sks for a New FN-Fal that looked cool. I got tired of looking at it after a few years. Shot ok . Later found out it was Ca illegal so sold it in a Nevada Gun show for huge loss back in the early 90s.

That's my baby. A Nowlin 9x23 (38Super) that built and tricked out by Thorobread Precision. It was a laser beam shooter and I loved her very much. It has a long list of custom this and custom that and I just don't like saying it because it makes me feel even more bad for selling.

I stole that pistol from a buddy who was hard up for cash and dumped her off for $600 cash. He even gave me the reciepts showing that he was in her close to $2600 1998 money.

I had another friend who begged and begged and begged for this and I always rejected him. He finally caught me at a weak moment and paid me $1400 for her and I thought well I at least doubled my money and then some. It matters not though and I still offer the guy $1500 for it back when I see him. He wont budge and I realize I'm an idiot.

I may up the offer one day just to ease my pain.

I regret selling every rifle I ever sold..

A number of years ago I sold a Marlin 60. Kinda miss it, just a 22 but it was taken care of and I never shot any crap ammo like dynaturds thtough it. It didn't jam!
Oh well, still counts.

I regret every rifle and pistol I have ever sold. My two biggest regrets are selling my Remington 700VS in .223, that thing was a tack driver; and my Kimber Custom TLE II in .45ACP. From now on I learned my lesson and I won't sell anything else.

I'm of the same mindset. Probably the dumbest sale I ever made was getting rid of a Win 94 Saddle Carbine that I had purchase brand new for $125. Sure wish I still had my Ruger Red Label as well. I'm only in the business of buying now. I leveraged a career move on my collection earlier this year, so far so good.

Only sold one gun in my life. A blued S&W 9mm that I sold and replaced with a stainless S&W 9mm. Still have every other gun I ever bought. I did just pick up a Remington 878 and a Remington Sportsman that I might sell, only because they came with a 700 that was too good of a package deal to turn down. Why buy them if you don't want them? If you don't want them, don't buy them, unless the deal is too good to pass up.

Top two:
Rem Model 7 243. Picked it up through an ad in the paper. Owner said it wouldnt shoot anymore. Almost 3 hours of blue cleaning patches and a little bedding and trigger work fixed everything. Shot 100gr Rem CL and Fed 70gr NBT's to the same POI and under an inch at 100 yrds with the chepo 3-9 scope it came with. It was the perfect goto all around varmint/predator/deer combo with never a thought except light bullets or heavy bullets. Sold it to a guy for his daughter to deer hunt with. At least it started someone off right.

Ruger 77/22 Hornet. Shot 5 shot groups of Hornady factory 35's into the .3's easily. Never even ordered dies for it, just bought 2 cases of same lot ammo. Then in a fit of genius, sold it for...something

.

Kinda makes me think this thread was started to give some of us a reason to buy a new rifle. I wonder if theres any M7 243's in the classifieds...

Quite a few regrets. I always seem to find a need for everything I sell about a year after it is gone. I hade a Kimber Model 82 22 Hornet that was a thing of beauty and shot just as nice. I don't remember what project or gun I was financing at the time but it obviously wasn't worth it. Wish I had that little gun back. I had a SS Mountain Guide in 7mm-08 that I would like back also.
