No side by side comparison i only use zoom feature to see a faint glow. I wouldnt buy the ps32 again. I would save the extra 1000. If you dont like the ps24 bass pro will exchange for the ps32.
yes I spotted a double coyote kill for you the other night. The Ps32 is a must but you also need the pvs14 on the gun and behind the scope. Having a good spotter with the flir is the best way to go. If the spotter had the pvs14 on the head and the flir in the hand and the ir on the helmet that would be best. And by the way I couldn't believe you shot two in that windy, cold night. And one was running. Nice job. We need to talk about not getting a dunkin donut break in between spots. Plus I want to take yardage readings in that field so I can post.
Got my PS32 in late Thurs and left Friday for a week long business trip. I did get to play with it for about an hour Thurs night. The only issue was that we had very dense fog and according to a guy at FLIR he said that fog would degrade performance considerably due to the high moisture content in the air.
Anyway....we have a CA fruitcake living in our neighborhood that has been feeding a coyote and now calls it her "pet"....but that's another story. I took the PS32 out and stood up against a tree about 75 yards from her backyard on a golf course fairway around 8 pm and started scanning. The fog was extremely thick but I could still see pretty well with the PS 32. Sure enough our resident coyote came for dinner about 30 minutes later.
I had the unit set on instalert mode 1 and on a scan I see a red coyote outline looking at me and trotting across the fairway to the house. I had a very bright white tac light with a tightly focused throw so I decide to test it against the PS 32. I turned on the light and all I could see was the beam fading into the fog and I finally spot eyes when the yote stopped to check me out. He was about 70 yards out and I could not see any detail with the light at that distance due to the heavy fog so when he turned he was completely undetectable.
I went back to the PS32 and could see him trotting away toward the house where he gets fed. I watched him stop several times to check me out but he was soon more interested in the food and went into her yard to eat.
After he ate he came back out he sort of hung out in a thinly wooded area about 125 to 150 yards out. I could see all of his movements very well even in the thick fog. I have no way to compare performance to the PS24 but it seems that since you are trying to ID animals based on a "silhouette" type display that the higher resolution afforded by the PS32 would seem to be a viable performance advantage especially at longer distances. I assume for pure "detection" that the PS24 would be comparable.
I did try the 2x zoom feature and I liked having it but you have to keep in mind that it is a digital and not an optical zoom. It just blows up the original image but I think it might be useful for longer range "ID" of what type animal you are looking at. It was also apparent it would take some practice and use to adjust to the silhouette type display.
A note on the instalert feature. I liked having the red "jump out" in the display for initial detection when I first spotted the yote. However, I noticed at longer distances it caused a sort of "blobbing" of the target as it moved and the unit detected changing heat signatures. I switched back to the normal mode and it was better for getting a more crisp outline of the target. But that would strictly be a personal prefence issue.
All of this is very preliminary but I thought I would share my initial impression. I hope to take it hunting in 8 or 10 days to see how well it works in the field. So far I think I will be satisfied with it as I hunt thicker areas and this unit affords a "penetration" advantage over standard night vision. I will know more when I do some comparative scanning with this unit along with my Luna Gen 1 binoculars which I have been very happy with.

Thanks for the info, but while reading I could not help thinking how nice it would have been to have had a fully supressed rifle to take out said domesticated coyote,,HE HE!! Sorry but I cant help myself!! Coyotes tend to do that to ya!!
This may be the subject of another story. I have an Air Force Condor that I charge to 3000 psi with a scuba tank. It shoots a 26 grain .22 caliber pellet at 990 fps. It's a tack driver with the Walther barrel.
I have already tried mounting the Digisight N550 to the rifle and it works great. Maybe set up for a 25 yard shot and take a pass on anything outside this self imposed range limit.
The coyote with an air rifle thing always opens a can of worms on the forum. I am confident I could put one down his ear canal at 25 yards but there is always the issue of last minute head movement. A coyote screaming from a non lethal head shot would probably give the lady a heart attack.
LOL I hear you!! In fact I just finished mounting some rail on my Mrod, coyote season ends this week. This weekend my night vision equipment is going to get swapped over to the Mrod for night time rat shootin!! Cant wait!!
Geese your thermal(Pulsar 550) sight should do great for rats mounted on that Condor..
