Ford Repair Or?

A friend has had trouble with his daily use Ford 4WD work truck. It was making a strange noise underneath/up front. The Ford garage had it for 60 days unable to find the problem. Ford motor corp sent underbody cameras and sensors finally determining it was a vacuum leak engaging one front hub under acceleration or load.
He got it back and the transmission failed at 27,000 miles. So back in the shop. Pretty discouraging.
Another friend had a brake problem with the same model Ford. He took it in for a check at just over 10,000 miles. They need to keep it for several days for complete brake and rotor replacement.

Have you pushed a ford lately? see your local northland ford dealer for details. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Just kidding, My dad and 2 brother in laws swear by their fords- me I'm a GM man.
and I'm not trying to start a ford/gm fight.

Just for future reference there is a 'ford truck enthusists' forum that has many members willing to provide alot of help with such problems. Much like this forum and gun/hunting related issues, theirs are all about fords.

They saved me $1500 on the first two issues I had.

PS any decent auto repair outfit should be able to diagnose a "pulse vaccuum hub problem" in about ten minutes. Replacement manual hubs can be purchased for less than $150.

Tripod, it sounds like your friends need to start taking there own lube with them when they go to that shop. 60 days is ridiculous for diagnosing a bad Hub and replacing brakes and rotors is a half day job in my driveway and a full day job at the shop I use.

Been a Ford man my whole life. I've been dumping a ton of money lately into the three that I own. Between building junk and Ford pushing the fag agenda I've probably owned my last one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I know the feeling with the repairs on a Ford. I have an 03' F-250 6.0 Diesel. I have shelled out over $6,500.00 of my own money to keep that truck on the road. I attempted to contact the regional service manager, but the guys at the Ford house would not give me the telephone number. I can say that once my truck bites the dust I will not buy a Ford again. This is my 5th and last truck from Ford.
It will be interesting to see what Toyota and Nissan come up with for a diesel. I have heard that they were considering making one.

We have owned and liked a new F150. It seems the length of time they have built them the bugs should be worked out. Looks as though there are problems growing. Last year a different Ford dealer had another friends new truck for 90 days finally putting a new engine in. He was furious turning around trading at a huge loss on Chevrolet.
We here of repairs of up to $8000 for many makes through friends but the Ford repairs seem to be getting dragged out for unnecessary reasons.
A neighbor working as a mechanic at the Chevrolet dealership said 95% of the work is warranty. Most people take other repairs to private garages.

Ford serverice has become an issue in my area. The Rescue Squad on which I serve brought Fords exclusively for over 20 year. It has unfortunately gotten to where no one can offer compentent service on the diesel engines or the truck themselves. We have gone to GMC for our ton and half units and Freightliner for the 2 tons.

Ford doesn't build quality vehicles. It's really that simple.

Sad, but true, and proven over and over. It's not even debatable anymore.

Ford's diesel quality control went right out the window when they discontinued the 7.3 engine. Since then they have been trying to increase fuel economy and decrease emmisions but retain power all with a smaller engine. And every time they come out with a new package they have a whole new set of bugs to deal with.
So when my super-duty finally gives up I plan to close my eyes and hold my nose and get a Dodge. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We have a neighbor that uses his truck hard over about 7-8 states. He gave up on Ford and went Dodge/Cummins. He has had a few manual transmission repairs but likes it much better. Last time he stopped by he told me the one I thought wouldn't make it turns out to be good, the Duramax.
It seems odd because Ford owns a good percentage of Cummins.

I have owned nothing but Ford trucks and have had good luck with all of them. Right now I have a Super Duty with a 6.0 and the thing is a tow monster. This is my third Powerstroke having one of each generation saving the 6.4. We use all of the big 3 at work, and they all have their issues. Being objective...buy what you like. It's a crapshoot however you look at it.

Ford does not own any part of Cummins.

It does not surprise me to see they sold their part, but upon checking it was smaller than I had heard like 8%. Now it seems that cummins may own part of Navistar. Here is a dizzying trail.

Sold my Dodges and now I drive a Nissan Armada, I love this thing and so far has not caused me one single problem. I don't tow anything of significance these days. It's not a truck but don't say that too loud while standing close by it. The new Toyota is a very nice package as well. Wish I could afford a brand spanky new one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Aint that the truth.

Every domestic vehicle I've owned has given me nothing but problems with the exception of my Eagle Talon(more mitsu than Chrysler though) I have an s-10 thats a total bucket of crap, but I need a truck around. My Mistu Eclipse has never given me a problem, the only thing I ever replaced on it(besides wear parts-brakes, struts, etc) is the slave cylinder, and that was at 118k. Plus its 18 years old. I'd say drop the fords and go Japanese, I'm a Jap convert for life after owning 3 GM's and 2 dodges that gave me nothing but trouble.

That's a pretty broad brush that you're using to paint a product. There's a heck of a lot of happy Ford owners on the road today, in spite of your "expert" opinion. Furthermore, despite your astute evaluations, Ford has received some pretty high marks on their build quality lately. You'd think that a person in business would not make such asinine comments. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif MI VHNTR

Every company in the business builds great trucks and crap trucks. Depends on how many years you look at.
I think Ford has a big redesign for 2009.

Gary, those new Toyo big trucks, are uglier than you.
Two guys at work bought them, I am sure they will be good trucks, but parked next to my Red Chevy, its like Shrek standing next to Pam Anderson. LOL

MI VHNTR, I understand lots of people make their living from Ford and etc. etc. etc. I have a relative who's an executive in Ford's design division, and probably many others more distant relatives otherwise feeding their family from Ford's coffers. I have lots of extended family in Michigan.

All I know is, I handle vehicles from +/- 5 years old to +/- 12 years old all year long. I've owned many Fords, among other domestics. The quality just simply doesn't compare to imports of similar vintage. At all. Doesn't even begin to. After 70k miles and 5 years, a Ford is - - more often than not - - flat wrung out, and starting to nickle and dime it's owner to death. Squeaks, creaks, rattles, vibrations, parts wearing out, breaking down, $100 here, $150 there... The other big 3 aren't much better. A Toyota or Honda of similar miles and age is tight as a drum and just getting broken in. It's a fact. I wish it wasn't true, but it is. I've been elbow deep in cars for 10 years + now, and I just can't recommend them to anyone. No bious, I wish it wasn't true, but I'll steer people off them every time.

Guys, I dont know were all these Ford lemons are coming from but its all i have ever owned and hadnt had a minutes trouble out of any of them.My friends are all farmers and when we were younger they tried the chevs and dodges around the farm, and now everyone of them own Fords and couldnt be happier. The truth is Ford trucks are heavier than Chevs and while the cummings is a great motor, the Dodge truck itself has problems. But thats just my experiance.
