Boy, does this bring back memories of frustration. I have been in the sights of some myself. I am tempted to say to Mike "Welcome to the top of the pile, this comes with the turf".
Just to give you a perspective on some of the comments regarding the status of one company over another, I think I am in a fairly good position to give you a perspective of the market "leaders"...at least as I see it. That term is relative in many ways. I tend to divide it up based on price range. Others may want to use total dollar sales, others features, others unit sales...all are correct to some degree...depending on perspective.
The lower priced units may be dominated by one company that can not even come close to the companies in higher price ranges when it comes to sales dollars or vice versa. We( Johnny Stewart Game Calls) dominated both catagories for many years because we provided a unit affordable to the average Joe and were able to market successfully nationally in a way that turned high unit sales also.
FP happens to have used the same pricing strategy in their early days combined with small and lightweight features. They moved up to affordable remotes and established a good hold there and now will give those in the higher priced units a run for their money. My hats off to them for their success.
Who is a leader in the field now? That is matter of perspective. I can tell you from my own perspective that I use these URL's to try and inform the folks at HS as to trends in the industry and who they should watch the most. I will not name other companies who are not on our radar screen so as not to be accused of slamming our competition, but I will say that FP has our attention....big time.
Is FP the leader in the field? If you use total dollars, probably not because of the marketing Juggernaut that HS is, even though they sell a unit in a lower price range. Is FP a leader in the Remote Caller catagory? Probably. I have no way of being sure because I do not have access to that info in their company or others. But if I were a betting man I would say they are....for now. That is just a gut feeling having been around this industry for a long time.
I personally do not object to one company basking in the limelight on these boards because we have been there and it was because it was deserved. I do have concerns about the ability of some to pad the boards with posts for or against, that may be plants to promote or tear down. I am not saying that is the case here though because I just am not close enough to it to know. It is a flaw in the medium I am afraid is hard to detect and do anything about. That is one of the main reasons I dropped off the boards to a great degree for years.
I could be telling the truth in the most diplomatic way I could and it still was percieved as sour grapes. Some of my competitors and their following could misrepresent, fabricate and out right lie to the viewing public and there was no way to rebut without looking like a whiner. It is a lose lose proposition for manufacturers even if they are the most decent people in the world. I am not perfect but I have never had to slam my competition to be successful.
I have respect for those boards that try to control it to the best of their abilities because there have been some that did not.
My suggestion.....if there is a thread that you object to...don't open it after you realize where it is going. It is as simple as that.
In an effort to throw in some humor...the subject line of one of my recent emails to the good folks at HS was "we are eating Fox Pro's dust". The URL I provided in my email was the one for this very thread when it was a decent thread. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Don't get a fat head over that one Mike. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
