Thought about upgrading to a Firestorm, only to find out that FX3 owners are roped into getting a FX5 only (discontinued model) instead of the Firestorm which is similar to the FX5.
A very inflexible and questionable policy; here's the transcript of emails to Foxpro:
ME: I have a FX3, is the FX5 the only upgrade path available to me? Is the Firestorm the same as a FX5?
FOXPRO: The only upgrade available for the FX3 is to upgrade it to the FX5.
The Firestorm and the FX5 are very similar. They have the same amount of sounds, same volume and sound quality, and very similar remotes. The main difference is that the FX5 has four presets but doesn't have Foxbang while the Firestorm only has two presets but it does have Foxbang. Everything else is very, very similar in the two.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance!
ME: So any FX3 owner gets stuck upgrading to a model that you do not even carry as a standard product anymore... sounds like FX3 owners get stuck with the old inventory. Not happy about this and I am rapidly cooling on owning another Foxpro based on a stifling upgrade path. Seems to be a totally inflexible policy.
Foxpro: The FX3 and FX5 are both older models that we no longer manufacture, however we still support and will continue to support any existing users of either of these products. As I said, the FX5 is very similar to the Firestorm, with a slightly different remote control. If you like the Firestorm, you're going to like the FX5. That upgrade is still present so that we can still offer people to get into a better remote control without having to purchase a completely different model, costing more money for the user.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance!
Evidently, Foxpro thinks they are doing FX3 owners a favor by funneling them into paying for an FX5... FX3 owners should be allowed to upgrade to the Firestorm if the two products are so similar. I guess FX3 owner's don't need a unit with their touted FoxBang option (not that it's of major importance to me personally).
I just don't like the idea of upgrading for a $200 smack to OLD INVENTORY! Foxpro won't be calling in this coyote again unless this policy changes!
