Glock 23: Any owner impressions out there?

I found a good deal locally on a NIB Glock 23 (.40cal). I would like to get some thoughts from owners before I "pull the trigger" on the deal...

Likes, dislikes, overall impressions....

How do you use this gun? Do you carry it? Is it a range gun? A plinker?

Had a glock 27 (baby 40 S&W) used as my carry gun and shot for fun at the range and not the prettiest gun out there but never had a jam up and always fired fine anything I fed it. If its a good deal you cant go wrong.

I like Glocks in general I have owned them since the late 1980's The only 40 I have is a G 27. I had one G 19 but traded it when I bought the two G 21's I prefer 45 ACP over the 40 for carry but that is me. I know a lot of cops who carried 23's thay all seemed to like them. function was as good as any Glock meaning NO ISSUES. And these were pistols that in most cases were carried 24/7 in weather from sub zero wet and snowy to 100+ dry and dusty with no malfunctions of note. BTW we were required to qualify every quarter, so they were used/fired a lot, in all weather conditions.

Hmmm... This is looking kind of good... We have /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif already... Maybe I should warm up the cash card... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyone else?

I have carried a Glock 23 for several years now on duty and off.(LEO) Although not the best looking weapon out there, I have found it reliable and fairly easy to shoot. You will find that the .40 has some snap to it when you shoot it.

About 10 years ago we went to the Glock Department wide. Model 22's for uniform carry and 23's for plain clothes. We have had few problems with them, and most officers can shoot them reasonably well.

As far as the .40. I have supervised over 6 officer involved shootings over the last 8 years (the last one 2 weeks ago) and the cartridge seems to get the job done.

i got the 32 which is a barrel change from a 23. Outstanding weapon, lil bulky for a midsize aas in its not a sleek gun, but its comfortable, accurate and reliable.

I have a G27 for my carry gun. I carry it on a daily basis and have probably put 1000+ rounds downrange. Never a hiccup. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Rack up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif to the total... The cash card is warmed up and ready for action... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif now just to wait for my ride to get here... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Thats what i have for a duty weapon. Its my personal weapon and i like to shoot it. Has got many skunks and other critters. My first and only pistol and haven't had any problems at all with it.

I wanted the .40 cal but I figuered that it would be too much for my wife to handle if she ever needed to open up on someone. so I got the 9mm I love it. that is my carry gun also.

Oh yeah I have never had an issue with it.
Like Tony the tiger says THHEEEERRRRREEEEE GRRRRREEEEAAAAT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Was one of my first carry guns. Reliable? Yes. Accurate? No. A buddy of mine loaded up a buch of wad cutters for the .40. They would not feed. Needed to stay with a jacketed bullet. Still have the gun but never shoot it. It does recoil a tad.

I started shooting a Springfield 1911 A1

Sorry, hit the wrong key and didn't finish the post.

Anyway, went to the 1911 A1 and found both recoil and accuracy much more acceptable. I would guess ammo prices are better for the 45 ACP than the 40 Smith.

Great guns, and if you want to load your own cast bullets, just drop in an after market barrel with traditional rifling. Accuracy? The highest duty gun match score of record, in our SD Police Practical Combat league, was fired with just such a combination: 595/600.
