Hogs and Dogs are very barbaric animals without any encouragement or human influence.
Nope not a thing. Just breed and raised Labs, dobermans, shepherds, mini poodles, and a few other small breeds. Not to mention persian and maine coon cats. Yes i know some have been used for hunting but to me this is just not hunting. Or more so hunting as it should be. This is very barbaric. For one to think that this is fun has got to have some loose wiring or simply uneducated. I know ya'll down in Texas are a little different, i mean this as nice as possible, but this was just a little shocking for me. This is 3rd world kinda stuff.
This type of "hunting" has been going on since white people arrived in this country. In case you didn't know, hogs were brought here by the Spanish and released to free-range. The only way to round them back up is to catch them with dogs. It can't be done any other way. The hogs we hunt today are descendants of those same hogs. Did you ever watch Ol' Yeller? Guess what, that was a Black Mouth Cur, not a lab as you probably think. Those dogs and others like the Catahoulla and Texas Blue Lacy were bred to do this. The scene in Ol' Yeller attempted to show how pigs were rounded up every fall to mark their ears (similar to branding) and bring some in for slaughter.
The dogs track and find the hogs then catch the hog by the ear. They do not kill the hogs. The hogs are held in place until the hunter/farmer can catch them and kill or tie them. It's all very simple and not barbaric. It was done to survive and is done now for sport and to help control the numbers. You may not have hogs where you live but down here, they are devastating to crops and land and have to be controlled. That can't be done by spot and stalk methods.
And by the way, what evidence do you have that dogs were bred to be pets? That's the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Next your going to tell us it's ok for a man to brag about owning/breeding fancy cats? Oh wait... sorry you did say that didn't you?
Bred to be pets?? Been done for generation. Maybe not how it started but for the most part that what they are bred for now. As for the cats, before the economy went south I was getting 500 per kitten. Now i am only getting 300-350. So if i choose to talk about them a little, yah i am happy about it. It helps provide for my family and all the people who have bought my kittens absolutely love them to death. They all have their unique personalities. Just like a dog.
Good for you. I was just messing with you on the cat thing. Some consider animal breeding for profit barbaric. Others think hunting in general is barbaric and no longer needed. Others think that calling predators is barbaric and cruel. Where do we draw the line? Who's opinion is right? Just because you don't agree, don't judge. You have never walked in our shoes. You have no idea the amount of damage to crops, equipment, and livestock feral hogs can cause. Here in Texas, hogs will soon outnumber deer. They are shot by helicoptor, trapped, snared, shot, caught with dogs, poisoned, etc. They can't be stopped. We can only try and slow them down. Dog hunters are the number one control method. You should thank each and every one of the thousands that do it across the South. They are prolonging the spread that you will soon see in your part of the country. Let's see how you like it when you can't drive across pasture because of the holes they dig or when the deer are run off food supplies. When the ground nesting birds are all but gone.
