Got Skunked

got 5 of them actually. a property owner that allows us to hunt coyotes decided he had enough of the skunks when i told him we counted 13 different skunks one night.

he asked if i could get rid of them, so i tried. i took my suppressed 22 lr with a red light to shoot with but used a thermal scanner to locate them.

i had the 22 mounted on a tripod and got about 20 yards away, did a wind check to make sure if the skunk sprayed it went someplace besides me.

the went pfft, the bullet went WHAP and skunk fell down. the sound of the bullet hitting was actually louder than the gun, i used CCI suppressor 22 lr subsonic HP at 970 fps.

i tried for a chest shot that gives a better chance of them not spraying than a head shot. only two sprayed, the other 3 three leaked a little, the whole place just stunk like skunk.

he told me to leave them lay and he would get rid of them. :)

Sorry, no photos, not getting any closer than i had to. and of course my truck was parked down wind :ROFLMAO:

Good for you bohunr--with this knee I am still nursing and one eye I have been casting my headlight only about 2 steps in front of me for the last several weeks. I have caught movement in the light's halo at 6-8ft 3 times that has turned out to be skunks scurrying away with a high tail. I am afraid one of these nights Suz is not going to allow me in the house🤬:ROFLMAO:!

sounds like a target rich environment.. I think I'd be hurling long range mortar at them. HAHAH . With the kind of luck I have, I'd get nuked, walk home, and live in a tent for 2 weeks before I could get into the house.

thats why i did a wind check before shooting, wait for them to turn broadside too. if they spray, the wind can carry the oil right to you.

That sounds like fun haha. Never shot 5 but nights I’ve counted 11 and had my son shoot a few before we left. Good practice through the thermal for him. Man, when they spray, that’s crazy the tar like looking funnel shaped gunk behind them in the grass laying there dead.
