gun stocks

I have been thinking about getting a different stock for a remington model 700BDL, any advice, or favorite manufacturer's. I would like to be able to just drop it in without having to do much sanding or glass bedding

If you want a good stock at a good buy. You should be able to find a used H-S take off for a good price, they come on many 700's from the factory. I saw a nice black one at a gun show last weekend for $150. I think it was from a PSS or something. Watch the formum classifieds on the Hide..

I'm not much for plastic stocks, but Jack and yotekyllr gave you good advice. Cabela's sells Boyds Laminated stocks that could be another option. Best I can say is stay away from the injection molded plastic stocks. Like Jack says bedding can be a benefit.

Boyds has finished stocks that will fit the heavy barrel's too.

Here's some other places to look, but you'll have to either finish yourself or have them finish your stock.

There are lots of others, I used to recommend Richards Micro fit, but have talked to several folks that got some really bad wood from them lately and delivery times are getting longer and longer with no resolution if you get a bad stock.

The easiest match for a drop in stock is some of the fine glass stocks such as mentioned above. I just wouldn't put one one of the injection molded stocks that you can buy for a hundred bucks.

Ive never changed a stock how hard is it?
i might just have to order the boyds for $93...
i think that would make my gun look and shoot better. plus i like the pepper look...

Probably the easiest, drop in, no bedding stockout there are the HS-Precision Pro-Series with the aluminum bedding block already installed. Simple bolt on and go.No messing with epoxies. you do need to be careful torquing down the action bolts though, they will crush the block.

But McMillan,HS Precision,Bansners,Bell & Carlson,Hogue all make good stocks that are direct replacements for your 700.you just need to decide what you want and go from there.

A little spendy, but I'd go McMillan. With McM, you get to pick your colors or camo painted or molded in, length of pull, recoil pad, action inletting, barrel inletting, slings studs etc.. from a bunch of different styles of stocks and lots of Rem stock choices.

McMillan is KING. Manners is next. Medalists and H-S are good for the money, and I own a couple of each. Avoid Boyd's at all costs......

ok guys i guess with all your input it means mcm is the best and i want the best...
does it take much to change a stock?
i heard its 2 bolts and thats it...

I have the choate untimate sniper on my remington, the only problem is this stock is heavy but my groups are tighter with the added weight, 300 yard shots are real easy now.

I have a savage model 11 .243 and i just put a boyds lamanite in pepper on it and I like it alot. and the gun has a great feel to it to.
