Head lamp vs hand held for scanning

another thing I will ad is when I was thinking about making the ROCKETREID GENII REDNECK halo for the new Night Eyes II headlamp is wouldn't it be GREAT if it was lined with a shiny material since u need to open up the tube to mate two together......well today I made the GEN 1.5 for the single tube lined with aluminum tape for the shiny reflective inner tube material......GENUIS.....hahahahahaha....BET!!!!!!

p.s. my pictured original version can catch eyes a long ways out now with just the paper towel tube sucking up some of the light.........this thing should ROCK with the aluminum tape lined inside the tube......BANG BANG!!!

looks as though with the silver lignin u get an extra halo outside the focused beam......originally with just the paper towel tube it had no halo just the focused beam circle now it has a halo circle around the focused beam circle so it seams as though I widens the beam circle with the reflective material inside the tube......also go easy wit the aluminum tape as it make it just short of to heavy if u do it right and helps even more than just the tube alone.......good luck!!!!!!

p.s. I also mean just short of to heavy to walk with it on and it not bounce at a decent paced walk for walk & spot hunting or walk in spotting. I don't walk with my light on normally but I dont like it flopping all over either and this still works.

one last tip improvement over original set up that I just figured out as well out moving to fast on purpose and trotting with it on.......if u aluminum tape the center head strap right where it holds the head lamp so the flex strap is taped to the headlamp base and strap about 3" back it makes that area just rigid enough so the center strap doesn't flex right there at the headlamp base at all now and eliminates any bounce at all while moving around or jerking your head around..... it makes it much more rigid and NO BOUCE whatsoever at a decent paced walk with the slightly heavier aluminum tape inner lining version...good luck!!!!!!!

Card board or flat black would be much better than reflective tape. IMO the whole idea of a halo shield is to cut down spill and reflective light. Not sure why you'd add a material to reflect more light. It does nothing to increase the usable distance of the beam.

yeah but it widens it further out like I want and the point of the halo is to keep it off me just like it does.....im trying to throw more out there period in front of the halo just like this does...what i read was wider beam.........nobody said more distance in any post I read or typed.......more light thrown out with the reflective at the same distance better view........PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

The noxx headlamp is only about $70 and free shipping from Boondock and you can focus it right down to a tiny square and has hardly any halo at all when you focus it down, and absolutely has no light hitting you anywhere even when focused out pretty wide. You can get halo sleeves pretty cheap too.

I'm currently using a Kill light 100 mounted on a hat for my scan light. I've used this setup for the last few years and it works great. I can pick up eyes a long ways away, the only issue I have is I do get a good amount of wash/halo, but it does work well. I too recently switched up my shooting light to a Wicked 402 and it's flat out amazing

the new light tube/halo with the aluminum tape inside worked better than I even expected........FACT!!!!!!!!!

Interesting, I never use a halo shield. Why would anybody want to see less area and at the same time lose the halo i hide behind?

Pretty simple, because it lights up things around you it shouldn't.You are only hiding behind if the predator is coming straight in.

I think the biggest reason is a lot of misconceptions.

I am not going to knock anybody's hunting style because if it works for them go for it, keep doing it!

However as I said in a post above, a lot of the problems people talk about with headlamps are just not adjusting to the equipment, but if what you are doing works for you, continue to do it.

I use the short halo shield on my original Night Eyes but I am now using the Dual Beam with out a shield and I have not yet had one spook because of the light.

im not talking about spooking off animals with the light........im talking spooking them when they c ANYTHING move in front of it that doesn't look natural to them.....hence sitting down in a chair like i do an extended halo works GREAT if I need to move legs or anything else while calling otherwise your entire gun and body really r lit up.....try some land where a mouse fart sets the critters and youll do what u can to conceal all u can......good luck!
