Sure sounds like a nice place to predator hunt.I'm trying to get drawn for a Wyoming mule deer hunt so will be out that way once I'm drawn.

I live close to Greybull Wy. Bighorn County has a very sucessful predator control program. Lots of airplane gunning and a caller behind every bush. Its very tough hunting.I think there is way more pressure than wyo yote thinks.Dogs are very hard to come by.

Hmm, I must be in some geographical oddysey, where ever I'm at, other callers must vanish through a time warp. What's amazing is that they don't even leave a footprint in the snow! Maybe there is more pressure along the roadsides then I realize, but if you're willing to hoof it away from the vehicle 1/4 or more miles, you'll see some amazing country that doesn't get lit up alot. You might even get lucky and call in a yote.

I will say this, these desert dogs up here aren't pushovers. You can walk into some very promising country full of sign and never get a response. Likewise, you can also try a new spot that might not look so promising and have one running to you in a few minutes. You still have to be on top of your game.

My initial post was not an alert for all hunters across the U.S. to hunt here, as it might be just as good in Idaho, Utah, Texas, etc. I can see where this would disturb some of the locals. My goal was to meet some fellow Wyo. guys, share some hunts/stories, have another set of eyeblls out there.

Any of you hunt in any of the contests around here? I heard about one up by Manderson but it was after the fact. And then there is the one out of Worland.

Hi WyoYote!

Sorry I'm late to the party. I've spent the last week at my daughter's house trying to disinfect her PC. She let her antivirus license expire...

We've spent the last 18 years in Casper, but my wife is related to half of Gillette and went to high school with the other half. All the kids were born there.

Don't have much to add on-topic because I'm still trying to get a handle on this game.

Cheers!
Dave

Hi WyoYote!

My sister and brother-in-law live in Cody and I'm trying to get together a coyote trip up there in the Spring after the "big thaw". Mom took 3 trips up there last year and is already talking about another one. Looking forward to it. AND NO LICENSE!!!!!

"Q. Do I need a license to hunt coyotes and jackrabbits?

A. Coyotes and jackrabbits are legally classified as predators along with raccoons, red fox, porcupines and skunks. Under Wyoming law, these animals may be taken year round and no license is required. However hunters must still abide by other laws pertaining to the taking of wildlife, i.e. prohibition of shooting from roads, fulfilling hunter safety requirements, hunting using artificial light etc. Further explanation of the dos and don''ts regarding these and other laws is contained in any Wyoming hunting regulation pamphet."

WyoYote,

My first solo calling was on heart mountain. 5 coyotes jumped up and ran at me as hard as they could. I was so shook up that they were in no danger before the gun was empty. The calling nearer the park used to be very good but after we started hearing wolves so much in sunlight, I haven't been able to call one in. I get there frequently, PM me and I'll get in touch on my next trip.

Good Hunting

Kevin

I had a great hunt yesterday afternoon with "Remmy 700". I showed him some big country behind the house. The almost hurricane force winds were relentless, but we kept at it. Nope, didn't call in a critter, but according to some steaming hot tracks in the snow I think we got busted once or twice and didn't even know it. Saw quite a few yote tracks and not once did we see all the supposed 'callers behind every bush' crowd. But, that is the norm if you're willing to get off the beaten path. We easily trudged 4+ miles up and down some steep terrain and ended up back at the truck empty handed but still, like I said, great hunt. On one stand, I had Remmy sit about 25 yd from me and while calling a golden eagle swooped down about 10' over his head and he didn't even see it! A couple of weeks ago I had 2 goldens swoop down at me, glad I didn't have one of those rabbit-fur hats on, I think I would of been decapitated!

Anyway, it was great to meet up with another 'boardie' and hope to meet up with more of you guys!

Pat

I have a lot of family in Cody. I pass through a couple of times a month. We went calling on Christmas Eve. Didn't call any coyotes but brought home a couple crock pots worth of cotton tails. Cody is my second favorite town in Wyoming. Good old Buffalo will always be my first.
Good luck

Welcome to PM WyoYote

Lots of good info here

I am in Worland

The gov hit the area pretty hard early with the Helicopter and yes there is a contest in nov out of here. And I believe they had one out of Manderson a couple weeks ago rumor is that two coyotes won.

How do you get any good hunting in with the wind up there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

There are some good spots between me and you /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

pm me maybe we can meet up and get after them

I just read all of these posts.

Ankeny,
Do they really have internet in Shoshoni?
I drive through Shoshoni all the time. In the summer I usually stop for the malts. I can't believe of the 11 people in your town one of them is on PM. (jk isn't there about 600) It's cool to see all the towns from our state that are represented on this web site. Is it true that the average house in Shoshoni costs half as much as the average house costs for the entire state?

Shoshoni - the home of $10,000 houses and a $10,000,000 school! Quite a few folks scoff at that town but I say "it is what it is" and try not to be too judgemental. If they'd just clean up a bit it would be a great improvement.

Got to agree on Buffalo. We really enjoy it here in Cody but my other favorite places are Sheridan, Lander and I even like Casper. Heck, I pretty much like all of Wyoming.

Hey guys...Howdy.

Been hunting mostly around the Red Desert area and Pathfinder basin. Lots of Dogs, but this winter has been one of the windiest (constant 40-70mph winds) I can ever remember. SUCKS!!
