I bought a Savage Mark II that I am going to turn into my boy's first rifle. He is almost 8 and loves to shoot, but it is difficult for him to shoot with the butt of my HMR stuck under his armpit. So, I was wondering about how to measure LOP, and what is the best way to cut the stock, and should I just trim the factory buttpad? What do you guys think about having the barrel shortened a couple inches? I can't wait to get out and shoot his new rifle with him, and he is sure chomping at the bit, too. But, I don't want to "youthanize" his rifle, and screw it up. So, I would appreciate any input.
