As far as the v shaped gun rest on top, just unscrew it if your caller has threads or as up-north 18 says use the gun rest to fasten your call to. As far as attacthing a metal stake (for hard ground) I carry a screwdriver and push it into the ground to make a hole. Just a note be sure when you insert the whimppy aluminum bottom extendable leg into the hole you made with the screwdriver make sure it is retracted enough so the next size beefier section is against the ground. It sometime bends the bottom leg

Wow guess I should've read the second page huh? Your picture is exactly what I was talking about. Just bought one a few minutes ago but I'll be using it for its intended purpose for now.

But I will definitely second your post, very lightweight, inexpensive, and can easily be carried in a backpack and then expand to about eye level.

manfrotto compact light stand. Lightweight (32oz), fits in my backpack, and if needed be I can get the caller 4-6' off the ground in uneven terrain. Does wonders for remote range and getting sound to carry. Made my own base that fits on the caller.

I wrapped the hook with vet tape so it didn't clang when you hang the caller on it. Works great unless the ground is super frozen. Then I stab it in a yucca. You can also hang it off a fence wire so it's pretty versatile. used 5/16 rod from the farm store.

What a cool idea
