How many have ever forgotten ammo for a hunting trip?

As a disclaimer, I shoot mostly oddball rounds, most in AR's these days.

An argument I read all the time touting common rounds is that if you're in the middle of the boonies and have left your ammo at home you can find these rounds at any gas station or something like that.

Now maybe that has some merit, IDK. What say you?
 
Not once. Ever. Rifle and ammo travels together.


I always pack two rifles when I go on a trip, so that issue would be alleviated if it somehow did happen.
 
Yep forgot the 6x45 deer hunting ammo one time. I was just occupied getting everything around for my wife and father in law. Hunt was saved by a mag of nosler 55bt I had in the door of my truck.
 
I haven’t but my partner did. 7mm-08 the first year it was out. There wasn’t a box of ammo within 250 miles of where we were hunting. Good thing we brought an old 94 Winchester in.30-30. You can buy ammo for that at the gas station.
 
Makes sense as far as having a common caliber goes I think. I keep ammo I use regularly in my truck so I can't say I've ever done it. If I'm going somewhere to hunt and riding with someone else my ammo is the first thing I pack.
 
Interesting stuff. I usually carry 2 rifles myself on big hunts just in case of a breakdown. As far as I can recall I can't remember forgetting ammo haha.

Same here.
 
Nope, but I did leave the bolt laying on my bench after running a dry patch through the bore once. Luckily had a shotgun along on that trip.

Guilty, the first year I was old enough to hunt deer. Got to my Grandparent's farm after dark (3 hours from home). The next morning grabbed the gun but realized I had left the ammo at home. Luckily I used my grandad's '94 but had nothing to shoot at. Dad lived 20 minutes away and brought me some "similar" .243 ammo that day.

Other than ammo, I've forgotten almost anything that is possible to forget. Boots, shooting sticks, charged batteries(last Saturday).

Just because you haven't doesn't mean someday you won't. Got to the range one day and left the bolt laying on the table. Have brought the wrong ammo a few times. It happens!
 
Nope. Not ever. Gone to the shooting range and forgot it. 5 mile round trip to retrieve it so no biggie.

They way my short term memory is going it may only be a matter of time however.

Not on a hunting trip, but I once completely forgot all the .22 target ammo when I took the kids out to practice for competitive shooting. We also had their hunting rifles, so we just shot those a bit and called it a day.
 
Never, or at least not yet. I have a number of wildcat/uncommon chambered rifles, and on the bolt guns, there is a stock bandoleer, with 9 rounds, on every rifle. On the ARs, I have a case for each one, and in the case magazine pockets are loaded mags for each rifle. If I forget the rifle, I forget the ammo. So far neither have happened. I have forgotten other things like lights, knives, drag ropes, gutting gloves, coffee thermoses, etc.

I have nightmares about running out of ammo, so that usually isn't what I forget.

only one time and it was when I was 12, my first year of getting to carry my own shotgun. Was a big group of family and friends and we only drove 3 miles from the farm house to hunt pheasants. Got there and was getting ready to start walking when I realized I had no 410 shells. Of course I was the only one carrying a 410, and NO one was willing to take me home to get shells OR let me drive myself back and get shells. First hunt ever for me carrying my own gun and I was heart broken. I've never forgotten shells since.
