How many rounds do you carry?

I got the starting materials at walmart, then put my sewing machine to work (hobby leatherworker).

I took a walmart "shotshell belt" that holds 25rnds, then cut down the nylon belt to about the length of an AR mag, leaving a longer pull tab on one end, then folded the end of the elastic under itself and stitched it down.

When they're loaded with 8rnds, they're pretty stiff, but if I drew a couple rounds out, they'd get flimsy, so for version 2 I doubled the nylon of the belt back on itself and inserted two wide tongue depressers between the layers to keep them stiff. I'm out of town for the weekend for work, and our archery deer season opens monday, but I'll PM you some pics when I get back next week. [/quote]Thanks! Il look forward to it.

Usually ~

Rifle

20 rounds in the AR15 or 5 in a bolt gun with three more in the pocket

Shotgun - 3 in the gun 15-20 extra in the pockets usually with bird shot mixed in just in case I get the urge for rabbits

Pistol/rimfire - about 200 in my back pack so I can hunt rabbits back to the truck

Some of you guys are slipping!

For a long time I got into the habit of loading 3 in the rifle and carrying 3 extra in my pocket. Then one day I shot all 6 when I stumbled on a very large group of hogs. It is not fun walking up to a big wounded hog to dispatch it with only one bullet left! Now I carry more and usually have a pistol along.

good point.....

I hunt in secluded areas known to be used for illegal marijuana grows. Never run into anything but I'll be prepared if I do. I always carry a pistol no matter what. On a stand, I carry enough ammo (hopefully) to fight my way back to my car so I can leave alive. I always wear a small backpack to every stand with basic survival essentials and extra ammo, even if it's a single stand. Lots of extra ammo in the car.

Running out of ammo while hunting is VERY lame. My hunting partner does it sometimes, when we do a stand then decide to go a little further and do another or whatever. Same guy never brings a drink, or a knife, or an extra battery... I think anyone who doesn't carry a few extra rounds is just lazy.

This thread has reminded me of our first hunt with Tony Tebbe a few years ago. Kiz had packed the hunting gear, ammo and all, and I didn't give it a second thought. (He did a great job packing the vests, gloves, face masks, bi-pods, etc., and I really appreciated the help.)

We're out the first morning and walk in a ways to our first stand. It seems like hard going to me, and I vow I have to get in better shape. On the way back in I'm trailing WAY behind, and feel like I'm the biggest wimp in the world. When I finally got back to the truck and shed my vest I found 5 boxes (100 rounds)of ammo in it!

(Kiz had packed it for travel and forgotten to mention it to me.)

Normally, I carry two 4-round magazines and a couple of extras in my pocket.

Jeff, Here are a couple pics of my "slips". The first round I made of them were 8rnd slips, but they were only stiff when I had shells in them, so version 2.0 has 7rnds, and a stiffening spine sewn into the nylon body.

They fit nicely into triple magazine shingles:

On v2.0, I also added paracord pulls (1strand 4 braid) at the top, and left a spot for a paracord "tether" in the bottom so I can anchor them through the bottom grommet of mag pouches. Here's a pic of one of them on my current coyote rig. It rides in a double mag pouch, the paracord tether means I can drop it and it won't fall away. You can see the cord coming out of the bottom of the slip (top in the photo),feeding into the mouth of the pouch behind the velcro, and the anchor loop sticking out of the drain grommet at the bottom of the pouch.

Pretty handy, doesn't take me long to make them, and suits my needs really well.

4 in the gun and 10 extra. Only reason I carry 10 extra is that is how many the little ammo pouch holds from cabelas. An additional 4 rounds would be plenty. If I shot all 4 in the gun then reloaded and did it again It's time to go back to the truck for lunch and a beer...

I also carry 4 in the mag (Bolt action 223) and 10 in a fabric cartridge holder.

I usually have a handgun along if I'm alone, probably a 44 Special, and I carry 6 in the cylinder and 12 in a holder.

Five in the gun here; 'many' when in southern AZ. Never have shot more than three here, nor in southern AZ. Best to be prepared in AZ. though.

I carry a 5 round mag in the AR. Don't really like anything sticking out the bottom of a rifle I'm going to sling over my shoulder and have never needed more. 5 rounds on the buttstock when I'm wagging the G2 Contender. I return to the truck after each setup. Get too far away and I might not make it back.

with my R-15 carry clip of 10 and clip of 5,also 3in shoot gun and 5 on stock band, with box of 5 in my pack.

thats a lot of ammo for calling in this neck of woods,so far never ran out yet.

if carrying my 243 bolt gun, band of 7 on stock,4in gun
plus same amount for shotgun.
