How many use the lead sled???

skb I cant speak for anyone elses use for a sled, but I think your comment on this somewhat misses the point although I agree with what you're saying.

I use my sled for sighting in and used to use it to test loads when re-loading. As far as shooting in the field goes, yeah..... The use of bipods, sticks etc, never really ocurred to me as growing up and learning to shoot we used standing, prone, and kneel. Besides we couldnt use them in comps anyway even if they did exist for hunting rifles in the 70's 80's. It doesn't take very long to get good at any of those methods without "hardware" support. I'm not sure when all the bipod stuff got popular, must have been in the late 90's early 2000's.
I will say anyone that likes to shoot a lot and switches scopes around, and test different load should own a sled of some sort if they like know the true accuracy of what they are shooting. Then you can take it off the sled and actually use it in the field know where its supposed to go, and adjust your freehand shots with that knowledge. The downside is if you setup the rifle right, all you can blame is yourself when you miss :-D

What do the pro's use when then are shooting PD at 500 or 600 yard's, I know it aint a Sled but what is it, Some guys are really GOOD.

I don't claim to be a pro, but in the situation you describe I just go off hand with my 17hmr.

I really am that good.

i never make a stand w/ 5-600 yards of view, a little 40- 100 yard break or clearing seems to be a perfect ambush zone 4 me. I shoot a lot, but a 100 yard shot on a yote size target is a long one unless you have time.

I bought 3 rifles in the past month. Just waiting on the scopes to come in. I could care less about the recoil part, I just want a good base to sight in and make scope adjustments. The Lead Slead works perfect for that.

I would not consider myself a professional but am pretty successful. I use a pretty standard benchrest setup. An adjustable front rest with leather sandbags front and rear and most important a benchrest style stock with a 3" wide flat forend.

I also love my lead sled also. I too only use it at the range and it works great and saves me from having to haul a bunch of diffrent bags with me. Wonderful for sighting in the muzzleloaders with 150 grain powder loads.

If you load the sled down to where it hardly moves, I think you are asking for trouble. With my big kickers .375, .416 and slug guns, I put enough weight in mine to take the edge off. Most of the time I don't put any weight in it at all.

Yes, you can damage stocks with the heavyweights. I learned this the hard way. I busted the stock on my 340Wby, and it is black synthetic. The heavy hitters need to expend some energy somewhere.

I found using the sled did actually change my POI. I was shooting 2 inches high with the sled. Now I use it for working up loads. Once I get the load were I want I will move to sandbags and zero the optics.
