The last year that I lived in Az, I shot 55 in the month of August. Pups are dumb, till Dove season starts, hunt hard!
I killed them when it was 105*, mid-day.
Look for areas that have water, watering holes, or a canal that they can get a drink out of. Most of the fields that irrigate have a section that has a water run off. When you find a farm that has busted Irrigation ditches that allow large pools of run off, don't forget those farms, coyotes will usually be within a mile of water that time of year.
Any of the large farms that irrigate will have a massive population of gophers. When they irrigate, the coyotes will run the rows for easy pickings on gophers as the gophers try to keep from drowning...kill'em and leave them lay...buzzards, hawks, and Crows will really appreciate you leaving them something to eat. The next day, go back and get the crows.
You need a rifle that will shoot 400 yards, I shot a 22/250 AI with a 55g NOsler Ballistic Tip at a little over 4000 fps to hunt yotes in the fields.
The dry river beds usually have a higher water table than the rest of the dessert, which will support growth. More plants = more rabbits = more predators. Scout and check the river beds for tracks.
The last week of July and the month of August was always some of my better hunts.
Back when we could hunt the Papago Indian Reservation, we would kill 100+ in August alone. Sounds like a lot, but it is not. Guys that hunted there will rarely if ever talk about what they killed on the Papago...eh, Billy the Kid?
I can remember Billy the Kid breaking his front Axle on his Ford truck hunting there chasing yotes.
