Hunting shows that lie

I wouldn't care for hunting shows if they were dead on accurate and "real". Some sports are better for me to be a spectator and some are better if I participate. Hunting and sex I would rather 'do' than watch...but thats just me.

My pet peeves about hunting shows beyond that -

The camera man finds the dead beast whilst walking backward with a 50 lb. camera on his shoulder while the "hunter" acts as surprised as if he'd won the lottery.

We are sneaking thru the woods with an entourage that rivals a rock concert.

We whisper....even after the kill. Like dude you just fired off a round at a pulse noise level of 150 db. Whisperin is now past due.

Exactly why do we wear camo whilst sitting in a raised black plastic box all day "hunting". You could dress for church and hunt that way.

We get live reports about how far into the wilderness we are now. In the background we can clearly see an 18 wheeler zippin down the highway.

Not everybody hunts deer perched in a tree like a bird...in fact half this countries hunters don't. Nearly every hunting shows depects this as the "only way" its done.

Apparently the only camo clothing that works is brand new camo clothing and if it fades it quits working.

Well folks being at one time on a video crew with a production company what you are all saying has some truth to it.... Mainly what you are watching is for entertainment.... Cut aways are part of all that entertainment, sometimes certain things need to be staged like finding the animal after some time, I look at all these videos as entertanment because nothing you are seeing happened exactly as you are seeing it, it's just not possible... Now the part where folks killed their animal with a weapon other than what is being portrayed is down right wrong... one of the main objectives is getting the kill shot the hit on film that lends to truthfulness in my book... although in my filming days I missed a kill shot on a turkey with a bowhunt but cought the turkey's flight as he departed with an arrow in him and he flew about 100 yards before going down all happened just as you saw it.... I will still and do still watch videos but as anything else I judge it as good or bad just like any movie or tv show I may watch....

Come on lighten up a bit.

. If ya don't like it don't watch it. So if you do watch it quit complaining.

Just about all of the hunting shows on TV are a lot better for the young ones to watch than most of the other CRAP that is on TV.

The TV in our house is on the Out Door channel about 60% or 70% of the time.

seems all these pros are going to these QDMA farms...the deer are farmed ...and they make the record books...for about 15k a man can get in the book....i dont think they shoud qualify for the books....

Actually, watching paint dry can get to be rather exciting, in a negative way, when you realize you used the wrong primer or sealer coat on it and it starts crackling all over the place and you wanted a really nice smooth finish...

or when you ask to have an epoxy painted on the floor and someone forgets to add part "B". It will never dry.....making the whole "watch paint dry thing" a lifetime achievement.

Hunting shows lean more toward hour long commercials and endless drival from some guy who couldn't hunt his way out of a barn. All the while he is flashing his new "match everything in sight" camo, his snot collector cough bottle, his new Encore in some obnoxiously common chambering, some $600 hunting boots and a ATV to drag it all around with.

I like the occasional hunting show where they don't bag an animal. I think these shows are more honest and more like most of my big game hunts. I really hate when they see a huge buck and say that it isn't big enough!!!!

I will tell yall this , i hunt some land that borders a BIG PAY hunt place where the Primos guys hunt and the guides there have been with other cilents and seen a big deer in a field and that cilent ask to sit there that evening and he was told NO Will Primos is coming to kill that deer next week And tha same thing happened up the river On WillowPoint ,A buddy was hunting a 100 acre field and seen a good buck feeding 2 days in a row on that side and the guide wouldnt let him hunt that side due to the Primos guys coming the next day.
Also have a guy i work with hunting 7 out of a 9 day hunt with a big Outfitter in Kansas , hadnt seen anything all week and the 7th day a Big Country music singer came into camp at lunch and by dark he had a 180 class on the ground. So deer hunting shows all all about the money and who has it.

I burnt out on hunting shows a long time ago.

Thats exactly when I would have told them who is paying who and I would have told them "I am hunting that field or I get my money back". And then all the neg publicity would follow.

I am burned out on em too. They are almost all the same, and most shows that are on weekly or daily have the same scenarios.

I agree.I watch this show called"Predator Quest"This Johnson guy makes it look like all you gotta do is drive a huge pick-up, painted like a white tiger, out to the open prairie and blow a few times on a rabbit call, and coyotes run right up.Lately he has been wearing this giant coyote skin hat.Hilarious!

It looks like a lot of his show is re-created, the big jerk up action of getting the rifle in line to shoot. I don't know about others, but my scope is already on it or very close when I take my shot.
It looks like some of the coyote see that fur and it looks like it scares the crap out of them. Some shows it shows them approaching the calling stand while walking on a ridge edge, not down low to keep out of sight. From watching his show, it is hard to believe he has won all of those calling contests. Maybe what he does while on the show is nothing like when he is off camera?? Don't forget ya gotta get to calling in order to stack them up!

Exactly my opinion too. I used to love watching Superman, Three Stooges, among other shows too. Now when they start making these show in animation, then I will call it quits.

I watch some of them even though it is obvious that they are staged, guess I just like to see all the different animals on there. Seems like I am only watching them when I cant be out hunting anyway.

I like to watch the coyotes come in, you can learn a lot on the way they act or react to things. You can usually tell when they are ready to run away, they get that what the heck stance to them.

I don't like most of the hunting shows that much anymore. Almost all of them are on ranches. I wouldn't pay a penny to hunt on a fenced in ranch. Not when I could just shoot cows out of the pasture all day. Whats the difference? Very few real hunters on TV anymore, if any. Just goobers who push whatever bull crap is payin the bills. No, I don't watch it either.

I like the show PowderHorn Montana, it seems to be done fairly well. Even though he had Les over to hunt coyotes! Nothing worse than baited deer in front of a box stand. I like to see and myself hunt the animal, hate waiting for one to show up.
