Introducing Predator University

Yeah, but are you getting paid to do what you love to do? Maybe you are but Tony has a passion for hunting and he is fortunate to be able to try it as a day/night job. My hat goes off to him for diving in and taking some risk to do what he loves.

Randy and others,

Any agreements I make with my ranchers are between the rancher and myself. I will let you know that I start every conversation with the same question; "Do you have anybody else varmint/predator calling your land?" If so, I move on. I'm not one to step on toes, steal land, disrespect others, etc... I know it's hard to get to know who a person really is over the internet.

My first predator hunt in Texas was 15 years ago, with my brother who lives in Texas. What Jeff, Todd and Rusty did was to allow me the opportunity to shoot my first bobcat, as I've daytime called them in prior years, but was never the one behind the gun. They were always shot by someone else. I'm not a trigger happy kind of guy. I get my rush from calling predators. If others shot them, it's fine with me. A bobcat was something that I always wanted to harvest for myself, though.

I fully expected some opposition by starting this business. It comes with the territory.

I can eat bolona sandwiches for the rest of my life and still die a very happy man, if I can earn a a small living by hunting and teaching others.

Thanks...Tony

Tony I knew opposition and jealousy would rear it's ugly head, I just didn't think it would be this soon.
There are plenty of people in this country that are willing to pay to hunt so they can cut their learning curve,or maybe they just simply don't have the access to good hunting land like others do.It is the way of the future weather we like it or not.
Texas is a big state and to think that Tony will be hunting in someone else's back yard, give me a break.
Tony the website looks great!

Scott

Tony,

I think your going to be very successful, especially if you have the time and resources to market the business. This business is different and unique. There isn't alot of compitition like there is for deer as well. I for one would much rather take a few Cats and Dogs than a 180 point Boone and Crocket non-typical. Thats cause predators are my passion and there are lots of guys who feel the same way. There are also lots of hunters who make serious money at there respective professions and would drop $1500 on dinner with friends and think nothing of droping it on a hunting trip.

If you can get the word out, I think you'll do great. Anytime you do somthing new and innovative, your always going to get attacked by someone. In fact, I take the approach that if Im not getting critisized, I must be doing something wrong.

You'll do great my friend and you will do it with honor and make us all proud to be part of the Predator fratunity of brothers.

RifleDog,

Not looking to bash you. Like i said i wish you luck.
What you are about to do has been done before and it has'nt amounted to much, maybe a few students here and there. It sounds like you are all about coyotes and youre school.. You have to have coyotes to teach others to call and shoot, when they run short i'm sure there willbe some toe's stepped on or you won't be able to make youre money... Like i said in other post the last thing we need is to have to pay to hunt coyotes...

I was once told a simple saying. Professional jealousy is ugly.

I still think you nuts but anyone can pull it off it will be you. Rock on.

TA17rem,

For the most part, the actual calling school is to teach the foundation needed for being a productive caller of any predator. Cats and fox will be the main target for teaching the fundamentals. Educating coyotes while teaching a person how to look for sign, setting up stands, calling, and handling an incoming predator is not my intention. My intended target will be for predators that are less adaptable to being educated/conditioned. Coyotes areas will be saved for hunts where killing is the main goal.

I understand that instructional hunts have been done in the past. The actual schooling and instructional hunts are the unknown entities in my risk. I fully expect guided hunts to make the lion's share of my business. But I believe there is some merit to introducing, hosting, and teaching new predator hunters the fundementals of be a proficient and ethical predator caller.

Thanks for the vote of luck. I really appreciate it.

Thanks...Tony

Who be it to judge that. This was a cool thread of one mans excitement to be able to do what he loves. Then he gets dissed for it. Question is, have you hunted with Tony? If anyone has you can be assured it is a passion. Let him live the dream without any negativity. I know Tony and can say in confidence, he has done all the proper research.
My hats off to you and the adventure. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Go get'm, Tony!

Then go hunting!Someone with a 'passion' for hunting spends their time doing just that. Seems to me that this was about something more than a 'passion' for hunting. Maybe a get rich quick scheme LOL

Something I've never cared for is those who are really young, but think they know everything when they actually don't know as much as they could /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Then there are those who are older who know everything but no one ever told them their full of themselves.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Your never that good to know everything and be in a position to cast stones at glass houses. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Political correctness failed with both types... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tony good luck with your project, don't let those few who think cause they shoot more predators than some, are the only experts in the field.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Continue to be the professional that you are my friend.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'd love to do something I love instead of sitting at a computer for 8 hours a day pushing pixels. My wife even asked me once if I could make enough money to support us if I hunted full time and I laughed because the only day I came out in the positive was a day all my buddies cleared a whole $7 a piece after paying for all expenses. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Hence the reason I'm sitting at a computer instead of tooting on a predator call right now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nope, never tried it, and have no desire to do so. I work 7 to 8 months a year, and take off from Nov. thru Feb.
My point was in regards to his 'passion' for hunting. In all the guiding that you do, I am sure that you spend a large portion of your time 'babysitting' rather than hunting.

Not saying its going to happen but i think we should be preparred for the worst. In case it don't work out or TT can't afford insurance and what not PM should maybe have a call auction. Take the money and put in a saveings account...Also TT close friends could sign up for classes to help him get going, and god knows they need all the help they can get... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tony All the luck in the world. You are a lucky man to have a family and the courage to follow a dream. I hope that it works out for you, good hunting. P.S. crossj if you've ever taught people a skill you would know there is allways someone who needs babysitting, it all pays the same and it is a real treat when the babysitter sees the child learn. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
