IRS raid of Colo gun shop

You mean Mom and Daughter are fakes? Gee it is on TV, I thought they are legit if they are on TV. Agreed, the whole show was a joke to real gun owners.

Roper, Not everyone is as willing to give up their rights as maybe some others are? Even giving up the right to a private sale, it is a right, no matter how big or small. I guess the gun grabbers may tell you the next right, or group of rights you should give up, since giving up one's rights appears to not be such a big deal to some. After all it is just common sense, for the children, just the right thing to do... I mean after all we have to compromise some more, they never do, but we have too.

LMAO!!! I like dirt myself too - heck, my degree is in Soils!!!

Just a guess here, but I would think that all the cash sales on T.V. probably got the IRS' attention in the first place. Seriously, flying around in a helicopter every week with 10 or 20 grand cash probably raises a red flag or two.

Maybe showboating on national television isn't the wisest idea. I hope he had all those cash sales documented on his taxes;)

You got that right on.

I've worked in the gun business - in one of the most successful gun stores east of the Mississippi, way-back-when.

While there is money in it, there ain't "helicopter" and "suitcase-full-of-cash" money in it.

And he wasn't buying antiques from dumb widow women for chump change, he was dealin' with guys that knew the values... so his margins were slim.

After that show, if I was the IRS, I'd be on them like a cat on a rat.

It's kind of funny about some of what their trying to past here.

I'm not sure about what year after the Columbine shooting the gun shows in Denver and Colorado Springs have required background check on all purchases of firearms even private sellers. I forget how much the fee is and I've purchased from private seller got background check never bother me.

We have guys in our gun club that are private sellers that have tables at the local shows here in the Springs buy and sell at those shows. Never seen anyone at those shows protesting required background check there on a private sell.
I think the Tanner shows rest of state require background checks.

I understand what the state is trying to do on background checks. Some of those shows be a line wait for background checks why did we agree to that now were suppose to protest what we've or some of us are have agree to do in the past.

your grammer, punctuation and spelling make it tough to decipher what you are saying, so if i got you wrong i am sorry.

it seems to me that you are suggesting that "universal background checks" are no big deal and that if no one cared about checks at gunshows, why should we care now?

first off, a "universal background check" would prohibit a father from giving his son or daughter their first 22 at the age of 12. it would prohibit a husband from giving his wife a self defense carry gun, or a wife from surprising a husband with a new back up gun for his trip to alaska.
but i see a far more dangerous part to our freedoms if this law passes. the new law would prohibit sales between ALL private parties without it going through a dealer or a check. how would the state know when the gun was sold, was it before or after the law went into effect? the only way the law could be effectively enforced is if they registered all guns so they could tell who had what when!
otherwise i could sell to someone a gun that i bought 20 years ago and we could both claim that i sold it to them in 2012, and no one could prove otherwise. also, say a friend flies in from out of state to hunt elk, and his rifle doesnt show up because of the airlines, it would be illegal for him to possess one of yours!
far too many unintended consequences from this law down the road. it is a dangerous time for our freedoms. EVERYONE who owns a gun or shoots someone elses gun should be writing and calling their state reps, and demanding that they vote no on all of these feel good laws!

There's nothing like using a lowercase letter to start a sentence that is meant to flame a guy for poor grammar!

The stuff on that show was more than a little over the top in the drama department. The way he worked many of his sales and purchases made me wonder if he wasn't laundering money for the mob.

And since this thread has been hijacked by the background check discussion, I'll add my $0.02 worth as well. The main purpose of background checks on private sales is to build a more complete database of gun owners and what they own. In order for a gun ban to be successful, the "king" has to have a thorough list of gun owners. Otherwise, people will turn in the guns they know are on the list (or decide fight it out over them) and then hide the rest. Private gun sales are that aren't tracked is one of the biggest hurdles to a more complete database.

"can you make my 870 into a self defense gun"

why yes we can for the low price of 1700 dollars

duh!! ok lets do it

only watch it for laughs and to make fun of the customers

and of course the women !!!!

I thought that there were some interesting, made-from-scratch guns on the program but so many of the projects were insanely overpriced as several of the posters have noted. Also as others have mentioned, too much made for TV drama.

I always thought the exploding target and such were dumb.

Rich Wyatt and the lead gunsmith had a booth at this year's SHOT Show. I spoke with Rich briefly and for some reason when I made a comment to the effect that the shooting industry was doing a poor job of educating the public about the difference between a semi auto and a military full auto assault weapon, he turned his head and ignored me. Don

I think the IRS raided him cause he is always flashing the cash and Gold, not to mention the silver, and i am sure they were thinking that the IRS wasn't getting their full share..

You may not like the guy, but he is running a business and trying to make the best of it that he can. I respect that. I wouldn't want to hang out with him, but don't hate him either.

What i don't like, is the idea of a goverment agency doing a raid because they feel they are getting cheated out of their share of the money despite the fact that they didn't do anything to earn it.

The first two paragraphs of your post I totally agree with but the last paragraph about a government agency doing a raid???? So you believe that we should not pay taxes and those who don't pay should not be held responsible and fined?
Nobody likes paying taxes but in order the society to function you have to, there's no other way around it.
