Bushy, Not to be argumentative,
Quote:Could have been a human messing with me in the middle of the night, but I don't think so...it is intelligent, not like a bear or deer, but like us. If and when I do encounter the "smell" I probably will not shoot. If they wanted me dead they already had two chances because I was close enough to smell them.
Your comment brings up an interesting question... How do you determine what conditions would be "Safe" or "Unsafe" (needing self protection)??
I've been in positions of taking down armed, wanted felons and through training and experience felt pretty much when I was in serious danger or not and could act accordingly...I'm still alive and kicking (just not as high, anymore
)..
Your position that this animal(?) is intelligent, as we are, raises the point that the potential for danger is, for all intents, existing since, historically, there have been numerous hikers and campers in remote areas that have disappeared with no trace, just as the remains of a Sasquatch have never been located....
While there have been reports of hunters and others coming face-to-face and after a 'stare down' each left the area, how can it be assumed that, if they exist, they are not dangerous?? There is really no behavior guidelines available on which to base a reaction...Especially if two or more were confronted at the same time, or a single one had the chance to ambush the hiker/camper/hunter..
