Is it true? St. Fransis Contest.....

Now let me get this straight .... people actually fly in and out just to hunt coyotes at local tournaments? Sounds like to me they have more dollars than common sense. Are you sure people actually go to that expense? Geez. Talk about money to burn.

Dog Caller,
As I said in my previous posts. (I guess you need to learn to read also) The Schmid Bros have my utmost respect, they have for years. Did I mention how many contests I have hunted in? That's what I thought, I didn't. I have in fact, had this conversation with Ted and lets face it, nobody likes to talk about it. Lets pretend it's not happening.
Nope, I sure don't know it all, but I can be sure I know more than a guy telling me to keep my pie hole shut. Ignorance is what they call it.

Sos,
The winners were caught cheating in the St. Francis contest 3 or 4 years ago, so what's your problem? You act like this is out of the question! They kicked two guys out of the Rawlins contest just two or three years ago for splitting up. This is not new stuff here! Of course I would love to bust these guys but you never will under the current format. As sensitive as you are about these issue I have a feeling you may be getting a cut of the entry money! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Heh, I am a moron! I will still probably hunt the St. Fransis contest. I skipped the Rawlins contest this year to do so. I love calling and competition. Who's making the assumptions? Anyone who wants to. Bottom line is if I prevent one guy from making the wrong choice from this post then it's worth the crap I will get. I can take it.

Mupuppy,
You see things very clear and have stated them well. History can't be changed but it can be challenged. Thank you.

P.

sosignal32 I'm sorry I was not more clear. The man offered me 400 for 4 coyotes not for 2. I was not participating in the contest and when I left to go hunting the next morning he was gone I never saw the man again. And I forgot to mentionI did not sell him the coyotes.

On the subject of judges going with the teams- I have not called any contest so just take this as a suggestion, it might work it might not i dont know. 3 man teams the third man goes with another team from a another area to act as "judge". like I said just a idear

Paul,
You were at the Rawlins Contest last year weren't you?
At least I remember you saying you were there last year. Maybe I remember wrong but I recall you saying it was your 1st contest, so you see you did say how many contests you've been in.

I know Tom and Ted very well. I guess you were talking about the Johnson bros in Rawlins then (kinda hard to follow which one (contest) you were talking about). When you do well in contests, your automatically a cheater to the people who can't hang!
If you know someone's cheating and have proof, turn'm in.
Oh, that's what I thought you don't.
So, I say again if you don't have anything but hearsay and third hand information keep you opinions to yourself!
I've competed in contests for over 10 years, so i doubt you know more than I do reguarding these contests.
How did you do at Rawlins last year? Sounds like sour grapes to me.
Yes, cheating has ocurred and those teams have been banned.
as far as a third party riding along with the teams, good luck finding 70+ people to spend the better part of 2 days riding along with the competing teams. Won't happen.

Dog Caller,
No, Rawlins was not my first, yes I was there last year and no, I won't keep my mouth shut. Thank you. I'm a great looser as long as the playing field is even.
Gee, that brings up the fly-ins. Oh, thats right, you changed the subject. Never mind.

You are "ASS"umming I have a problem with the Johnson Bros. I don't. And they didn't win it last year. They don't cheat. As far as you knowing more........I had not planned on competing in that arena. But now that you bring it up...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

No sour grapes here, Just turning them into "whine".

See you in St. Fransis!

Did I say that all winners cheet. Oh, thats right, I didn't. You're puting words in your mouth again.

I'm done responding to this subject. I have no interest in making enemies or arguing about this stuff. I asked a valid question with good reason. I have a lot to offer without going down this road. Nuf said. My apologies to those I may have pissed off.

Paul

mudpuppy summed all this contest contoversy up about as well as it can be summed up!!
Does cheating ever occur? Hell yes, you would be a fool to think it didn't. Can you have a great time and meet some great people at one of these calling contests? OH HELL YES! Can the old ordinary Joe caller win one of these events? You'll never find out if ya don't try.
Personally if I KNEW cheating was going on at a contest and the event staff did nothing about it, then it would certainly be my last time attending that particular event.
My buddy and I have attended one certain event every year they have had it. The first 4 years we participated we spent a lot of bucks (those calcuttas can get expensive) and took it all way to serious. The 5th year we decided we were just going to have fun and not put so much pressure on ourselves. Well low and behold we ended up winning the damn thing. 6 dogs in a one day hunt. Things just fell together that day and nothing could go wrong.
Just go. Have fun. If somebody is cheating and you KNOW their cheating, Shoot the fookers and throw em in a ditch! The coyotes will thank you.

the only way to stop the cheating is to take the money out of the contest, sas but true. the 3rd person idea is something to think about though

Paul,

The Johnsons won it this year and last year, please get your facts straight before you sound off.
If you don't want to compete, great. As I said if you don't have proof keep your opinions to yourself. You don't seem to get that point. Anyone can come up with the crap your spreading, if you know it's happening (fly-ins) (pooling coyotes) and have proof SHOW IT.

PROVE YOUR ALLEGATIONS! OR KEEP QUIET!

Dog Hauler,
I did check my fact.....

You are talking St. Fransis on the Johnsons and I am talking Rawlins. Again, you need to read more.

Johnsons won BOTH two years ago.

Interesting post! QUESTION: What are ya'lls experiences with polygraph? Most of the contests I've been in locally have included the lie detector, and that seems to make things seem a little more fair, for a couple of reasons:
1. If you are caught lying, other contestants are probably going to whip your a$$.
2. And second, if you are overwhelmingly believed to be lying, other contestants are going to whip your a$$, and you will never be allowed in the contest again.

I'm not saying that is what I believe is right, but that the way it is sometimes. (I have never seen personaly a person whipped at a contest, but have heard stories, so don't quote me!!) But the polygraph I think helps. If the people running the contest believe that they are losing the integrity of the contest because of cheating, they will make it as hard as possible to cheat. If you dislike the way it is being run, then don't enter it. I have no idea about the contest ya'll are speaking of, don't get me wrong. I am just mentioning my experience with local contests.

Most of the cheating I've heard of is with heavy animal side pots, and baiting animals. Also, how much money is at stake in the contest ya'll are talking about?! Must be alot the way it sounds. The most I've seen won locally is around 4000 dollars, a huge amount in my eyes!!!

Big-Tex,
Good un-biased input. Most of the contests have a polygraph "clause" in the rules but this is just a scare tactic and for the most part, not pro-active but re-active from some cheating that went on over the years. Just about every contest has had a "bad year" when someone got caught. Then the knee jerk starts to happen.

Brent Rueb at the St. Fransis contest has probably done more than anyone to try and fix some of the problems but lets face it, if someone wants to cheat in a "scramble" golf tourney, it's going to happen. Personal Integrity is "doing the right thing when nobody is watching"

Like many have said in the forum: Go out for the hunt and don't expect to get anything but a little trigger time. Who knows, you might get lucky and kill a couple, meet some nice guys and have a good time.

Pee Pee

For christ sake boys, lets don't turn this board into a verbal battle ground.
If the integrity of a contest is questionable, don't partake.
It's pointless to even continue posting on this matter.Hop in your truck and go kill some coyote.

Pee Pee Fan,
I was just sure the J Bros won both one year! I guess thier names are on the marque so much it just seems like it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the research.
