Is one custom rifle worth several factory rifles?

He killed me on looks but I murdered him on group sizes.

Makes me think sometimes its the Indian and not the arrow. And by the way, if you haven't looked lately, Savages ain't that cheap anymore. This was pointless wasn't it???

Besides, when I am looking through my scope I cannot tell what they look like. Only what they shoot like. And I like how they shoot.

Savage rifles are like a choice in women to me. me, I'd rather have an attractive woman who does everything she does well while looking good doing it, as opposed to an ugly woman who cooks well.

Kind like the comparison of dating a fat girl and riding a moped, it's all good and fun, until your friends see you. lol
 
My first Savage in a long time, 112 single shot solid bottom, factory 3 lb trigger, rechambered SS Fluted factory barrel, and this was my first trip to the range while working up loads, scope was a Leupold 36x, PMC brass, skim coat bedded heavy laminate BVVS stock. Stock factory bolt head and recoil lug. I just upgraded to a Rifle Basic 2 trigger for the action.







Back in the early 80's prior to me getting into Benchrest competition, Savage made a 112 J model which was a solid bottom action with 25/06, 243, 220 Swift, and 22/250. They had a large walnut stock on this model and 26" barrels. Everyone of the 110 J's were unreal accurate rifles. Being a die hard remington man, the savages have always been kinda funny feeling.

Well, with this being the only savage that I currently own, the action is headed for more barrels as groups with this factory barrel are simply unreal at 300 yards.

I have Bat, Hall, Stolle actions also, but these klunker Savages are simply amazing, and they keep me humble. I just wonder what kind of lies the talking heads in the gun world have told us.

what are the custom and semi-custom rifles that you own personally, and use to routinely beat Savage rifles in 1000 yard matches?

Have you ever shot a 1000 yard match? Nope lol. Once again, none of what I have said here today and yesterday is from my personal experience. But I did recently go to a "range" (farmland field) that had 1,000 yard shots plan on going back and giving it a shot.

I must ask was the point of that just to embarrass me and make me seem like a know it all who actually knows nothing at all? I've been honest I'd like for you to be honest with me too. Fact is though just because I havn't shot a 1,000 yard match or don't even own a custom or semi custom rifle doesn't make the subject foreign to me. I've never drove a lamborghini but I know they are fast...
 
JJT, takes this for what it's worth, but maybe next time be a little more selective with your choice of words and keep your statements more obviously opinion based. For the most part everyone is ok with personal opinion but when you gear it more toward being an absolute, well, then folks tend to get a little more prickly about it.

If we were all sitting around a table shootin the chit over a beer we'd all be laughing about it but unfortunately sitting behind a scene reading/posting things has a whole different affect. Either way, it's all good and no harm no foul.

I always thought hands on is the best learning experience. I believe that is what fw is trying to say but I am not trying to speak for him. There is a big difference between shooting 100 yds and 1000 yds. Just because a rifle will shoot at 100 don't mean it will at 1000. Most of the time it's like cars. To get the best performance you have to have a great driver. JJT, I know where you are coming from but you are beating a dead horse.. I own custom and semi custom rifles and have had Savages beat me at 1000. Not that I'm that great of a shot but it kinda of lets the air out of your sails when a guy with a stock factory rifle beats a custom rifle. Says a lot about the shooter and rifle to me.....
