Is Sport Wharehouse going broke?

I went to Sport Wharehouse to buy powder and the shelves were bare. No powder no primers . Anything reloaders use most of was out of stock. What is going on? It was at Riverdale,Utah store.

I asked the Riverdale Utah store what is going on in regards to ammo. They stated that most of the companies have temporarily stopped manufacturing ammo and reloading supplies for the general public to catch up with the demands of the ongoing war on terror. They will re-stock stores after they make good on their government contracts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

The Riverdale store by Firecode can only stock so much gun powder and primers (explosive). Being the time of year it is and people loading up for the spring and summer, my bet is they have had a run on what your looking for. I was in there a week or so ago and they had all I needed. How much money ya got , I'll sell ya a couple of hundred primers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Try Midvale store if you're in a pinch. I don't think they are worried about how much gun powder they have on hand down there. I honestly don't believe that Sportsmans is going belly up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

The shelves in the Tucson store aren't being restocked well either. From what I have heard is that Sportman's warehouse has changed their inventory and distribution system to all there stores. All incoming merchandise now routed thought a distribution center in Utah. The stores don't know what merchandise is coming in ahead of time, it just shows up. The new system doesn't seem to be working well.

Well the army must have put a strain on the Dewey cleaning rod company, as the Mesa, AZ store don't have squat on the shelves.

I asked the gun guy in Casper and he simply said "Nothing showed up on the last truck." Anything needed for rifle reloading was gone....FWIW they've been out of ALL small rifle primers AA2230 and W748 for 4 weeks...Something doesn't seem right for sure.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I know the OKC store has A LOT in stock, but hardly any on the shelves. They have to keep the Powder and primers in a HAZ-MAT locker rather than on the shelves.

The Mesa store got a pretty good shipment a couple of weeks ago but then they ran a 10% off sale. The girl at the register said that a lot of people really stocked up on reloading supplies.

When that Bass Pro shop finally opens up, I think that it will really put a hurtin' on the Mesa Sportsmans Warehouse.

Same thing in Spokane, but it is not just reloading supplies. There were sections of shelves empty. I asked a clerk what the deal was and he told me they just could not get merchandise replaced fast enough.

the midvale store was well stocked last time I was there, they where a bit low on berger bullets. I think sportsmans will be fine, however I think cabelas around here is starting to have an impact, cabelas is getting more people signed up with their credit card, myself included and I find myself buying more and more from cabelas, however sportsmans has a way better feel on the things we need here out west, cabelas is too worried about selling white tail stuff to back east hunters

We have both in Oklahoma City, while Bass Pro is nice, they charge a lot of extra money for the "ambiance". With the exceptions of occasional sales, Bass Pro's prices generally run 10-20% higher than Sportsmans Warehouse. Sportmans primers were running $22 a thousand, Bass Pro was $29.99, neither one had any inventory to speak of.

I don't know if they're going broke but I wasn't too excited at the ignorant response I got on the phone yesterday.

I've been mostly a big bore shooter. Just got a fancy Ruger 10/22 and asked if they had any target (meaning higher quality ammo than Wal-Mart $11/brick of 500. He said sure, starts at $11/500, obviously doesn't know diddly as top quality Lapua is closer to $9/box of 50. So much for great advice from the counter. Don

Colorado stores are way down on inventory as well. They say they just can't get components and ammunition but, it sure make you wonder.

I hope that didn't suprise you! The only smart gun people I know are on this forum and myself. Customer service sucks everywhere!

Well......not exactly everywhere.

There is a guy that is the "Gun Manager" at our local SW and he also spends a TON of time working the counter at the store. I have seen him spend a long time talking to a guy who didn't know squat about firearms and used the patience of a grandfather combined with the knowledge of a teacher trying to educate the buyer and assist him in making a decision. I have NEVER seen him give anyone a sharp answer or snub them off. He's a class act all the way. Granted, he's probably a rarity anymore, but we feel lucky to have him in our store. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

The new store in Rocklin, CA has never been well syocked. I have heard rumor they have opened stores too fast from someone in the know, and are having a rough time. I have been calling for weeks trying to buy an 8# jug of H335 with no luck.

The Reno store seemed well stocked a couple weeks ago though.

Bass Pro will price match anyone in town (50 mile radius)... all you have to do is ask for a "lead" or ask for a "manager"... they WILL mark your product down to the competitor's price. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
