Is the 300BO fazing out?

Not the latest greatest anymore and not much more to be said. Supers aren't much more than a 7.62x39 but better bullet selection and subs are like throwing rocks trajectory wise but super quiet.
Newer sub cals out now like the 338 arc with slightly better ballistics.

There's a little Sako with a Lilja barrel and a bunch of components for sale on Accurate shooter and the price isn't terrible. I've looked at it a zillion times but still can't find a real need/use for it. I'm sure it would be a fun rifle but having trouble finding a use for it. I have to many rifles that just set now.

Had 1, couldn't find a long range sub bullet that it liked, And it was a silly case for supers.

Did take a deer with subs, a couple coon, and a skunk...

Moved on to a 9x19 bolt action

About all I shoot anymore. Low recoil, cheap to re-load, effective on hogs and yotes (about 200 yrds or less) plus vermin. Not problematic. Never considered subs for it. Lots of calibers not talked about that still work. She dropped
@ 150 yds with 110 vmax super.

I'm running 190 SubXs @ 1550 out of a 16" AR with a wraith thermal with LilGun. Pretty darn quiet with a can, they work well out to 150 or so & has a big FOV. Use that one for woods & tight quarters sets. Also have a Savage boltgun running em subsonic, is pelletgun quiet, but that one hasn't drawn blood yet.

Actually think if a person only had to shoot out to 200-225 yds max, 300BO with 110 Vmax or the Barnes ammo would be excellent choice, plus would have option to shoot subs also.

I have had a couple AR 300blk's and I dont care for them .
But I been running a boltaction in 30blk for years. It a Solid Hitter for anything under 200 yard Night shooting . With short range Coyote it pretty nice, and with bolt gun it also Suppresses 'real nice' with a softer tone. It good round when you working those tighter area's with not a lot of downrange.
I running those NAS3 cases on the rifle also now, and they are just adding little more icing on the cake with getting into a solid 2500+ Vel and 110 vmax's.
.

Bobby tomek at specialty handguns .com website uses the 300 whisper(same thing) in a TC carbine. Heck of a performer on a lot of game for him with the Barnes 110 grain Tac-Tx.

I have 2 and love them. An 8.5” SBR for night time hog hunting and ready if needed for any self defense issue. (Have a red dot sighted.) Love the fact that with pistol powder you can go so short and also shoots sub sonic well. The other is a 16” which is used with grandchildren for stands in the woods with 200 yards max. They love it and it is very effective. (Barnes 110 gr TAC-TX) It is also a guest (my little brother) gun for night time predator hunting. (Our land in MS has very few shots over 200 yards.)
They are definitely a niche item…for sub sonic and barrel length ability they are great. I will agree others like Grendel are better for super sonic use.

Saw that ad. Fwiw, thats a 1:12 twist? Odd twist for 300bo? Wud seem to limit it to the lightest bullets if im correct on what ive seen online? Nice lil toy otherwise!

I haven't looked at the .338 ARC yet. My take on the 300BO, it's velocity between sub and super are closer than most making it one of the best options to run sub-sonic. I've always been puzzled by guys trying to run sub-sonic .223, or any other high velocity round. Doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

338? 1100fps will give same trajectory whether its a 190gr 30 cal or a 307gr 338. And the fast loading is 300 fps slower, so not quite as flat. But, will punch a bit harder on both ends of the gun.

Not much more fun that hearing the firing pin hit the primer and the smash of a 200+ gr hitting steel. I have several. One SBR for home defense. Several others for the enjoyment of shooting them. I love the caliber personally.

Love has actually nothing to do with the decline across the buying/ Kool-aid crowd. The new has worn off, focus is now gone elsewhere. It will return to the niche status it enjoyed prior to the whiz-kid, Kool-aid folks toting it as "the" answer.

Doesn't mean the cartridge is not good, nor worthy of consideration for a task. Simple progression of things every cartridge enjoys this same wave.
If there was a true cartridge that served EVERY tasks at hand then there would only be 1 cartridge offered.
Personally do I think it's a pretty neat design? Yes, but as long as I own a .223 Rem/5.56mm chamber I won't own a .300 Black. For only 1 reason, that is it will slip into the .223/5.56mm chamber. Outside that it is a freaking neat design IMHO. Do I think this fatal flaw is what is driving the Kool-aid crew to sort of quieting down? No not really, they just simply shifted focus to something else.
Here enters the 7.62x39 argument as it will not exhibit the same flaw, and "could" do the same thing, with the ability to give a edge in supersonic performance.

Just my thoughts whom know? The round may very well do as the 45-70 Gov't and be a "zombie" cartridge. Zombie being offering completely drop and ammo offered almost to non-existence, only to have a resurgence in popularity .

300 bo, anything 1050 fps or less is a no-go.
Trajectory is like pitching a ball.
Energy is really low. The only thing that makes sense to me is a large caliber or a 22 lr.
Lacking energy, the size of the hole it makes it mo better.

huh? I can’t pitch a ball a 100 yards, and its subsonic rounds are quite effective at 100. There are several bullets specifically designed for subsonic. Got issues and don’t want to be heard? It’s awesome.
I’ll totally agree there are better super sonic rounds, but the use of pistol powders and very short barrels make this a round I really like. Sub and super…
